I just like a plain wood rolling pin. Mine's about eighteen inches long and an inch and a half in diameter. I believe it's made out of maple. It's just perfect as a rolling pin for me. If I'm rolling out something I want extremely flat (like a pie crust) I use spacers under it. A yard stick I cut in half is what I use for pie crust. I put one on either end of my pastry board with the dough between the two and then plop the rolling pin down atop the yardsticks (which are about 1/8" thick and roll away. Perfectly flat, even pastry dough.

My wife wanted a new rolling pin so she checked out amazon. She ordered a stainless steal rolling pin. I'm not sure what name it is but she loves it way better than wood. She said it doesn't stick like wood does it clean easy and can go in the dishwasher. Its at least 18 inches long . it was well worth the money. Don't remember how much but it wasn't expensive.

I have a silicone rolling pin that I think I got from QVC about 10 years ago. I like it much better than my old wooden one, but I still have to flour it before rolling out the dough. I just wash it under running water with a soapy sponge, rinse and dry it off. I may look at the metal one @Pooky1 mentioned.
