DUMB QUESTION OF THE DAY

OK guys

with the pandemic flaring its ugly head.

IS IT SAFE TO EAT what neighbors bring to your front door (such as cookies and treats).

now a days you just don't know what is safe to what is NOT safe.

My neighbor brought over some sugar cookies today. I don't want to toss them she works so hard on these cookies (she has little money to purchase gifts-she bakes and give these as her gifts of love).

Like so many things, the answer is "it depends". In this case it depends on YOU and your concept of acceptable risk. It is a personal choice, and one that YOU have to be comfy with.

I'd make myself a cup of tea (or coffee) and enjoy the cookies. I believe it's been mentioned that the virus doesn't stay on food (if it even gets there). If you're worried, you can always transfer them to a different plate or container of your own and leave them for a day or two. Or even freeze them to eat later.

I certainly wouldn't toss them.

I wouldn't hesitate to eat cookies. The coronavirus is mostly airborne. Everybody is eating take-out from restaurants, aren't they? That food has potential exposure to numerous people.

We have a PSA running on TV here in NM that says, "no hugging, just drop off cookies".

My personal opinion is that people are eating in restaurants and take out and don't seem to be having problems. If you know that her personal hygiene habits pass muster with your own standards, why not?

It's very nice of her to think of you. You must be a very good neighbor for her to do so.

It's probably safe, assuming you didn't invite her in and weren't in close contact with her. However, I won't be baking for friends or neighbors this year. They may not feel safe about eating my food and and it's not worth the trouble if it's going to make people uncomfortable.

If COVID wasn't around would you eat cookies or other food from this person's kitchen. If yes than YES eat the cookies. The virus isn't being transmitted from our food. Do you eat food from restaurants or purchased elsewhere its NO DIFFERENT

If you wouldn't have eaten those same cookies last Christmas than NO.

For the life of me I can't understand why people are SOOOOO scare of everything.

I have not been out to eat in a sit down place or drive thru since early feb of 2020.

I never thought about the take out services and such. She is such a wonderful kindly neighbor lady. I love her and her 2 cute young kids. she has helped me out in the past.

she brought the cookies to the door with mask and I had a mask on too, just opened the front door big enough to accept the cookies container we chatted thru a cracked front door for a wee bit and she left.

am getting many great feedback. THANKS GUYS YOU ARE A HUGE HELP TO GIVE ME PEACE OF MIND

The two ladies at my salon love my apple bread and practically ask for it, and I enjoy making it for them. A few months ago I asked them to be honest and tell me if they would be comfortable eating the bread. I didn't want to waste my time and ingredients if they would be tossed. They assured me they would like it and when I took it in one of them started eating it. I would have understood if they said no.

Not a fan of food people make and bring by and haven't been for about 10 years. For many reasons.

One being, I am careful about what I eat, and if I am going to have treats, I want to eat what I crave and not what someone has decided I want.

I think for a lot of us, that is a tradition that has come and gone. It's just not something I want to do now. So many people have pets in their kitchens and handle pets without thinking about it, and then I don't know what is in the things for dietary reasons. . . etc.

I think that if Covid were spread through food that we'd all have had it by now. We've all been eating food throughout the pandemic (some more so than others, no judgment, lol!). Regardless of where it comes from, Covid is not a concern, which is why I am totally confused as to why the QVC hosts don't eat it during presentations.

It doesn't matter how careful and picky you are. You have unknowingly eaten some pretty gross stuff in your lifetime and you're still breathing.

If you think commercially prepared foods and restaurant food is pristine or safe, think again.

But, I will admit that I would not eat food from some people's kitchens. I have seen the insides of their homes and let just say, they don't meet my idea of cleanliness.

totally NOT a dumb question! I have been debating the same thing.

Every year, I make cookies and my DD takes a huge tin to work. I mentioned to her I thought I wouldn't do that this year, you know, Covid and all. I also didn't want to waste my time and money if ppl were too nervous to eat them and worried about multiple ppl reaching in to open cookies.

She said her coworkers had already asked her when the cookies were coming!

A friend on the Potsticker thread made a great suggestion to pkg a few in zip lock snack size bags. That way, other ppl are not touching open cookies and they can just take a bag.

I would eat them. They wouldn't bring them if they had been exposed. (You do have turst in them???).
