Stupid me..dumb baking error.

I have been baking daily for the past two weeks. Today, I made a few different type of cookies which included a chunky oatmeal raisin.

I always use metric measurements and use my Kitchenaid sift and measure attachment.

Every thing thing turned out well until my DH decided he wanted to sample one. I told him to eat one that was smaller than the rest. When he bit into it he screamed.and spit it out.

He said, "what is in this? " showed me a black thing. I thought maybe my raisins clumped together, but no, it was the hub screw from my Kitchenaid mixer. It must have fallen into the cookie dough when I removed the sift and measure attachment and I didn't notice.

I didn't know it was missing, but I am happy he found it for me. I feel bad that this happened to him, but thankfully, I am happy that it didn't happen to anyone else.

Scheech. I am not gonna live this one down.

Wow. He's lucky he didn't crack a tooth.

I have not heard of a sift and measure attachment for a KA.

Don't beat yourself up. I already beat myself up enough years ago for both of us. I had out-of-town company back in the days when my trusty Sunbeam mixer was used to do a lot of baking.

I don't bake anymore, but I'll never forget the cake I made for the visitors and found that it had a piece or two of glass in it. Apparently, the glass had come off of the mixer's glass bowl.

I quickly replaced that with a stainless steel bowl made for the mixer.

I no longer have any mixer, but if I did, it would have a stainless steel bowl, NOT glass.

I noticed that when Kitchen Aid mixers were recently offered as the TSV on QVC, you could separately order a stainless bowl for more money.

@novamc1 Wow, that was scary. I hope no one was injured.

My Kitchenaid is about 40 years old. My parents gave me money for Christmas and I treated myself. I was burning up hand held mixers and was always having to replace them.

I have two bowls, both SS and I have extra paddles and wire whips. The new Kitchenaid attachments still work with my old mixer. I love the new colors and have been tempted to get a newer one, but I am too cheap. I'll keep using my almond colored mixer until it falls apart or breaks.

I am glad I never got a glass bowl, but I have been tempted. I'd just have to learn to be careful with the hub screw. I learned my lesson.

@Carmie -- how's this for a stupid baking error. I decided to double a box coffee cake mix. Called for 2/3 cup water and 1/4 cup oil for 1 box of mix. What did I do when doubling those ingredients? Added 1 1/3 cups oil. Once I added the oil, i realized my mistake. I was all set to toss everything, but figured what do I have to lose . I "drained" as much of the oil and added the correct amount of the other ingredients and baked it. "Wasn't bad" my husband said as he wolfed down a big slice.

BTW -- The brand is Krusteaz Cinnamon Swirl available at WM. Absolutely the best.

Oh my yes! I always have a couple of boxes in my pantry. It's so easy when you're craving cinnamon coffee cake!

I just bought a Cuisinart 8 cup food processor and used it for the first time a couple of days ago. I made scalloped potatoes so I could use the slicer attachment. Then I used the shredder attachment for the cheese. Everything came together so quickly and I was very pleased. So after they're baked and I'm eating I felt something strange in my mouth. I kept spitting it out and didn't see anything. Then I got a bigger piece. It was plastic shards. The bottom of the lid where the pusher meets the hole was shaved off.

There's a ridge there that was smooth on one side and jagged on the other side. Cuisinart is sending me a new lid but I'm skittish now. Don't feel brave enough at this point to do it again.

I love my KA glass bowl. As a matter of fact I have two of them for holiday baking to keep up with my demand.

Glass being in your food would be a matter of not banging utensils on the side hard and paying attention to the condition of the bowl while emptying contents etc.

I like being able to see the thoroughness of the mix and my mixer looks beautiful on the counter.

Told you, told you, people don't listen to me, but, those KA mixers are a piece of ****. Crying shame, they used to be the top of the line, now, they have cheapened out. Pretty paint jobs on the outside.

Hope he didn't cause damage to his teeth or need a new crown.

I made beef stew in the crock pot....all was well,,,smelled delish..final stage ...I went to thcken liquid...grabbed cornstarch

ONLY

wasnt cornstarch..was baking powder...foamed like a bubble bath...I screamed

Hubby said no problem...scooped the foam off and tasted it...was OK

Reminds me of the song...Every body plays the fool.....sometimes

I suggested he take that one. It was a lot smaller than the rest of them. I used a cookie scoop and I guess the hub screw took up a lot of room and left very little space for the cookie dough.

My mixer is at least 40 years old. It is not junk. Mine is still top of the line and it's not a pretty color. It's the color almond, which is no longer available anymore. When I bought mine, there were only two colors..white and almond.

It was my fault, when I loosened the screw to remove the attachment, I should have tightened it up again.

That sounds like,something I'd do. I once grabbed cinnamon instead of paprika and sprinkled it over about five pounds of scallops.

My brother was having a party and I was doing him a favor by cooking them. I was really upset. He didn't care and he served them " as is",,,, his guests loved them. I got a lot of compliments.

Who knew cinnamon went with seafood?
