There was an inspiring thread about this tuna here some time ago. I wanted to try it, but at 5X the cost of Albacore (which I no longer eat because of the mercury) and 6+X the cost of chunk light, I passed. Even if it was five or six times better in taste and texture, I could pay >$1 an ounce for a lot of things I'd prefer to tuna.

If anyone knows where this can be bought at a discount, I'd love to hear about it.

We love tuna in olive oil and I'm always on the lookout for it at a decent price. To me a decent price is about what you'd pay for a McDonald's burger meal--fries, drink and burger.

I look for Mediterranean brands on Amazon, and they also have USA packed tuna in water in salt free and salted that is very good.

There is one brand (I know by sight not name) that has oil packed tuna with curry and other flavors that is very good.

To me, tuna packed in any oil is a step backwards. I don't like fish and oil seems to increase its fishiness. I fix tuna, when I eat it, with many things to decrease the fish taste. It seems less intense packed with water.

I have used Tonno Carli ( the smallers tins, not the big glass ones) from Olio Carli for about 40 years.

They are fished in Spain, but the Carli company is in Italy.

It is the best tuna you can find, it doesn't taste like fish.

We use it mostly with spaghetti or rice ,topped with parmiggiano Reggiano ( not Parmesan)

I used to put tins in my luggage when I came back from my summer visit in Italy. It is not sold in stores in Italy.

Now Olio Carli delivers in the States.

Their olive oil is the best too. You can boil potatoes and just put seasoning and Olio Carli and you have a perfect healthy side dish.

I wish Hsn or Qvc sold Olio Carli.
