Need Slicer for Onions

My food processor slicing blade is broken and at its age not replaceable. I don't think I want to replace machine just because of slicer.

Any suggestions? I want to make onion soup and knives don't like me.

If you could use chopped onions, you could try the pull and chop device:

Got may Dash mandolin at Bed and Bath and not mess with Q's processing and shipping horrors.

Cut the root end off the onion, set the onion on that newly cut flat end, cut straight down thru the middle, peel the outer layers off, lay the onion flat with the middle of the onion down. Use a fork to stabilize the onion and start slicing.

I'm one of those people who refuse to buy kitchen gadgets when my hands work just fine.

@SharkE .... WOW ... I checked out the Dash Mandolin .... it is exactly the same machine as the one QVC has that chef Zakarian claims to have invented .... I wonder who really invented this..... I guess we will never find out??

I use a large serving fork to stabilize onion and use it as a slicing guide.

right now they have the regular 20% off coupons

I got 1 for 10 off a 39 purchase

got one for 20 off a 50 purchase. I just run mine under the faucet just as soon as U quit using it. slice potatoes and onions with mine. Use the tiny brush they give you if something is stuck.

I'm getting away from QVC tired of the mailing hassles. Probably will leave the boards too. Just tired.....

A box grater has a "slice" side. I like to use it for thinly sliced cucumbers, but you could probably use it for onions. Check out OXO graters; I think they're one of the best.

I have a mandoline---they make them so much safer now days--I like GZ one---I have my Cuisinart that I use. I cut my thumb on mandoline iIhad about 20 years ago and should have gone to the hospital for stitches, what a bloody mess!!!

@January121 Someone in China invented it. Like the other 90 percent of what QVC and most sell. These celebrities just put their names on it and rake in the $$$.

But then they are cheap and come in pretty colors.

And the price difference? Compare the cast iron from China with Le Creuset.

Agree, the Zakarian mandolin is excellent and super safe. Regular madolins are an invitation to the Emergency Room.

And yes, the mandolin on Amazon by Dash is the same thing. Buy whichever one is less expensive.
