How Often Do You Buy A Range?

I take such good care of everything. I have bought 2 Whirlpool Accubake ranges.

One the stove top died. Both burned out the oven thermostat and my pound cakes would rise, fall, and boil over! The problem was cleaning an oven that was supposed to be selfcleaning! It DID clean, but it WON'T bake!

This one is probably 20 years old, but with just the two of us here, I rarely have the oven on!

All I do is a large turkey for Thanksgiving and a spiral brown sugar ham sometime.

Grrrr!

How old is your range? Changing soon?

Our house has double wall ovens. They are almost 16 years old.

@ECBG I'm like you...we make a turkey over the holidays and bake a few things occasionally but really don't use the oven part of my range very often.

Ours is about 15 years old and still works great. Not planning on replacing yet but from what I understand appliances are hard to come by right now.

My gas range was 28 years old when the pilot lights would no longer hold the adjustment to stay lit. Still held a stable oven temperature, but kind of dangerous. So nice to have electronic ignition.

@ECBG I have a GE double oven that came with the house when we built it 47 years ago. I don't use it much but it works fine! The range and hood are original also. I just bought the third refrigerator.

I have never bought a range. The house we currently live in was built in the late 80's. It has a separate wall oven and a cooktop.

After my father died and we sold the house it had the original oven in it. The house was built in 1968. He died in 2014 and it took us about 2 years to get the house ready to sell. I think he had replaced an eye once or twice. It was an Avocado green drop-in style and was still working perfectly.

I have a gas cooktop and double convection wall ovens that are 17 years old. I use both daily. I use the self cleaning function on the ovens several times per year. Everything is still working fine. Fingers crossed!

My electric cooktop and wall oven are both 30 years old. We replaced the bottom burner in the oven a few years ago. It is a Whirlpool and I don't think we would be able to find another replacement burner. I hope it hangs on until appliances are in good supply again. If not, I plan to buy a counter top oven. I just hate to have it take up my counter space.

My GE oven/stove top is 13 years old. I've used the oven probably once a week during that time and see no reason to get rid of it until it gives out. It's nothing fancy, but it works well for me! The top range still looks great and cooks just fine - no problems....knock on wood (or glass).

@ECBG If your current range works, keep it, even if you don't use it very much. The newer kitchen appliances don't last nearly as long as the older ones. Also, as another poster mentioned, it takes a long time to get appliances now. To paraphrase, if it ain't broke, don't replace it.

If your oven goes kaput, in these difficult pandemic times, why not buy a Nesco style oven (many brands, under $100) to Senate use you over?

@Eileen in Virginia Honey. I use the oven heavily at holiday time making pound cakes for gifts.

Anything we baked had to be timed less than recommend because it cooked so hot. Every single baked cake either hummed in the middle or pound cakes boiled up and over!

LOL!!! 40 years old. The stove has been here since the house was built. It does not look like it's 40 years old.

When we did some upgrades in the kitchen 20 years ago the stove/oven was still working so I left it in the kitchen. Now it's 40 years plus still working.

It's Bisque color along with the rest of our appliances.

We need to gut our kitchen but I have no idea what to buy. We have electric but DH wants gas.

We want cabinets with drawers & shelves that slide out.

We have to find someone we trust enough to do the job after we see what happens with the Pandemic.

I am not in the appliance market right now, but I did hear there is a shortage because of so many people cooking at home now. So if you want one for the Holidays you may not want to wait, I would start shopping now, get on a waitlist if necessary. But if the brand/style that you like has broken on you twice, you may want to try a different brand. Maybe check Consumer Reports or Wirecutter website recommendation. My oven is from the 1990s.

@ECBG Yikes, you really do need to replace it! My advice would be to check appliance dealers for ranges that they have in stock. Otherwise, you might not take delivery on an order in time for the holidays. I've got a friend who ordered a new refrigerator from a local store in July that was supposed to be delivered on September 9th. Not only was it not delivered, but they're telling her she may not get it by Thanksgiving now. She's checked with Home Depot and Lowes and they're telling her they're having the same problem getting stock. Good luck!

In the houses we have lived in, I wish I had taken my Thermadore double convection wall ovens with me! OH my goodness I loved those ovens!

I have never had a range since college apartment--cooktops and wall ovens only. I'd love to have a Thermadore range!

My mother just had to purchase a range /oven three weeks ago and it was about 20 yrs old. It is my mother and my brother (who helps her). They do not cook a lot or bake a lot but it happens.
The stove.oven has been on backorder and is expected to be installed this coming week.

Not easy when many restaurants are not open and my mother is older with health issues.
