Kitchen Aid Mixer TSV

I am in dire need of a new Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer. Mine is 20 years old and leaking oil. I wantto wait for the TSV because it is such a good deal and all the colors! Doesn't QVC usually have a TSV in the Fall?

@Brilliana I would suspect sometime this autumn--October/November. Do you want the tilt head or bowl lift? QVC seems to offer the tilt head more often. Personally, I prefer the bowl lift.

The KA mixers typically leak if they are left unused for a long time.

Every so often you should run it to keep the food safe lubricant that is used in the gears stay well distributed. You could check to see if there is an authorized dealer near you that could fix your current mixer.

I'm betting your mixer still has a lot of good years left, but you might just be yearning for a zippy new color and this is your happy excuse

I just got a 5qt stand mixer from KA. They had a special sale in July - $100 off; you may want to check if the Q doesn't have one. Got kyoto - color of year but all available.

There are a lot of videos on You Tube on how to dis-assemble the KA mixer to get to the gears and the bowl lift mechanism if necessary.

My 20 years old unused bowl lift model seized up in the bowl lift mechanism...a common problem I found out. NonUse hastens the grease coming out, or the bowl lift mechanism failing to work.

It's not that hard, and all you need are common tools you already have.

Remember...it's made on an assembly line by people. Anything that is put together mechanically ( NOT welded, like the panels on your car), with screws and nuts, can be taken apart.

Spread some newspaper, gather the tools and the mixer and go to it. I was surprised how easy it was. I had to get to the bowl lift mechanism which has ONE little plastic part that failed.

Once that shiny labeled belt is removed from the head, it's smooth sailing!!!

You can get "food safe" grease on Amazon...and gaskets if you destroy one taking it apart. Just be careful and voila new mixer for a few bucks!!!

The "repair shop" won't do any more "magical" that that!!!!! For 50.00 an hour!

I try EVERYTHING first using You Tube.

Found and fixed the pump drain on my front loading washer ( took off the bottom panel with a screw driver, unscrewed a large plastic nut, and removed years worth of glop and goo from the pre-trap before the water pump that empties your machine. Mine was running slow to empty. .

I also fixed the rubber gasket in my front loader with a 1"x1" piece of hard rubber glued over a small tear that was causing a leak ( from dragging the clean clothes across the gasket when unloading) I cut the rubber from a door mat edge and used J-Weld glue. Five years ago, no leaks. New gasket? 125.00 BEFORE the labor to install!!!)

I also rebuilt a push mower carbuerator for the price of a small gasket.

I changed the wax ring under my toilet. And replaced the toilet valve ( the thing that makes them run ). You Tube!!!

I am a 64 year old woman....live alone, done with being ripped off.

I figure if I wreck something, I can always call for a repair by a "professional". But THINK how it made, who makes it ( people on an assembly line? If it's put together with screws, it comes apart with a screw driver.).

I always say..."You don't need a (male organ) to make repairs, just a few good tools and YouTube!!!

I would love to give you mine. Used 1 time. Do not buy one with the pins on the side that you then have to push the bowl on , I hate mine so bad. Get one where the head picks up. Don't get me wrong, I have everything from Kittchen aid in my home, but someone was drunk when they designed this disaster.

@HLP Sorry to hear this. I had trouble at the beginning because I was afraid I'd "break" something.

The trick I learned to attach the bowl properly is to put the bowl on the pins and then push at the inside of the BACK of the bowl until it snaps into place under that clip on the upright column. Your bowl is then securely in place.

Hope this helps.

I read the manual several times but actually finally perfected by watching a demo I found somewhere on the internet.

Once you've done it successfully a few times getting the bowl on and off a bowl lift is easy.

Hope this helps you get much more use out of your mixer. If you still hate it that much sell it--people pine to own one--or, if you can afford it, give it away to someone who will love and use it.

Yeah, 20 yrs ago was good products. They're all junk now. There's others to choose from now.

Watch Kohls as well. If you have a 20 or 30 % off coupon and they have a sale it can be a great deal. Love KA and wouldn't use anything else.

I'm kind of hoping you are able to fix the problem and keep your older machine. I say that because they ones they make now are not at all as integrous as the ones made back in the day. Also, some of them are now made in China. I think that mostly applies to the ones sold on tv.

At least as of ten years ago, Kitchen Collection used to sell refurbished Kitchen Aide mixers; many of these came from the cooking shows ( notice how their mixers are always new?).

I bought one then, too, for a gift. I'd been waiting for a good sale, and the TSV price was the best I've ever seen for them anywhere.

I bought mine about 4 years ago from Macy's, on sale, and I thought it was a very good price. But the TSV last November was $65.00 less than what I paid for mine.

Although they don't offer a thousand colors, Costco is generally a good place to find a decent value on KA mixers. From time to time they offer a discound coupon for them too.

Thanks, I will give it another try I have the small hand mixer, 2 food processers, a refrigerator, toaster from Kitchen Aid, which I am happy with, but this mixer was all I could do to get the bowl off and on.also, pinched my finger. Had my Son and DIL both try it, and they said get rid of it. I make a poppyseed salad dressing which almost fills the bowl, and no way could I use this mixer. I bought a cover and all the attachments, which is why I still have it collecting dust.

You've got my number. I am yearning for a zippy new color! It looks like they are selling down to one or two colors in most models, so I foresee a TSV in the near future and a zippy new color for Momma!

KA came out with one that 's cordless. Doesn't have the power of a electric, but, it's nice for small jobs.
