Wow, We Are Getting An Aldi's.

Not here in East Begeeus, but about 10 miles from here. There is a Super Walmart and a Weis in that town already. Weis is okay and Walmart is a very, very last resort for me. I have to be desperate for something to go there.

Not sure when the Aldi's will open. I may check it out after the novelity wears off.

Yay or nay?

I wouldn't get too excited. And bring your own bags and bring a quarter to rent a cart.

(I haven't been in one in six months so that may have changed.)

Aldi has been the go to for milk and eggs and also for flour and sugar and other items like that. Also we bought some fruit there and it was very good.

It is hit or miss but we usually go there a few times a month.

We are fortunate it is about 2-3 miles from our house and across the street from Target.

A second Aldis is coming to town. I don't have to stock up on a lot of items, but it's good for families. My son's family can go there without spending a lot.

I am one who likes Aldi's, but its not my only store since it doesn't carry of lot of things. If you check out the produce carefully, you can get some great prices. For example I got a pineapple for .99 today along with several of the packages of berries (blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries all very fresh) and all at a reasonable price.

So far, I've had good luck with their store brand, and spend about 1/2 of what I would at other local grocery stores.

You need to bring your own bags, and bag your own groceries yourself, but I prefer that anyway.

Some Aldi's are very nice. Others are not. We lived in KS and it was horrible but when we moved to another state, it's very nice and clean. Nice produce and season specialty items change all the time. We go weekly. Try it. Eggs are usually around 29 cents a dozen and milk is about 1.29/gal. The same company that owns Aldi's owns Trader Joe's.

Hated the first Aldi store I went in outside of the D.C. area, but have become a selective fan since moving down South.

I don't buy all my groceries there, but the excellent ones (for us) are:

The freshest lettuce, carrots and celery in town, and certain other fresh things priced lower than other stores such as bananas, grapes;

Frozen vegetables (brussels sprouts, asparagus, peas, mixed vegetables),

Eggs,

Brioche buns, plus some types of boxed crackers and bags of snacks.

Canned refried beans and jars of various salsas

I'm always amazed at how many items I can pick up in that store and pay only about $15-$18 for all of them.

P.S..........I find not much to like about Trader Joe's, despite several trips over the years trying to see what so many other people think is so great about those stores.

I shop there twice a month but ours is soon closing as another

a few miles away is being built to replace that one. I wish they

would just stay where they are.

Sometimes I get other merchandise there other than food. Just

found some nice bed sheets there for my daughter who needed

twin xl for her dorm room. Bought pillows in the past, some other

good finds too.

i live close to one and i rarely go......i have been maybe three times in the two years or so that it has been open.

highly overrated and they dont have a lot of choices.

It takes some getting used to, but it's my go-to-first store now. I'd suggest you go to their website and start checking out their weekly ads; that will give you an idea of what Aldi is about.

Adding to what others have posted, I buy flowers, chocoIates, produce, breads, tuna, lots of cheeses, frozen items and specials every week. I have bought great gadgets, heating pads, fans, humidifiers, and even lawn furniture!

The black label "Specially Selected" items are very high quality, and the organic line is very extensive. Their personal care items are very good- Lacura skincare & razors, etc.

and, if are not satisfied with any item, Aldi will replace that item & refund your money.

Not all items are kept in stock.My best advice is if you really like something, stockpile it😂 otherwise you'lol be waiting months for it to come back in!

I will probably check it out but we try to mainly go to smaller family owned grocery stores since March. Now that DD is back at work and near a Wegmans she will get something from there now and them.

There was a family owned grocery store near where I worked. Great family and there was not a bad item in their deli case. Best meat around, their chicken and tuna salads were great, and they had a daily special. I am not a huge mac and cheese fan but loved theirs. Some days a co-worker and I would get a container of chicken salad and a box of Triscuits and have it for lunch.

@novamc1 Love their Brioche buns! Have had good luck with the produce. Occasionallly can find boxed sides like rice or quinoa with not too much sodium.

Trader Joe's has good frozen bags of potstickers. Their Tarter sauce is good too. My sister likes their Salsa verde. I Get a kick out of their sales flyers.

It took me several years to try Aldi's when I first lived in an area with them. I use them primarily for produce, dairy products and bacon. I am always on the lookout for when they carry Kringles. I found them a couple of years ago there, the Racine brand, same as offered on q. Although the size was a bit smaller they were like $5. They carried for a year. Last year they only had them for a short time around Thanksgving and Christmas. You have to watch specialty items that come and go. Any problem with an items and they will refund.

I'm one that really likes Aldi's. Their produce is not only better than my local grocery store but the prices are better.

It would be easier for me to tell you what to avoid because I like just about everything they sell. For instance, I'm not a fan of their coffee. I tried some potato salad that I didn't like, but I've since seen other varieties and I guess I'll try it to see if it was just that one kind that we didn't care for.

I'm trying to think of what else I don't like but I can't because everything there is really good, better than name brand. Their baked chips are better than Lays Baked chips, the take-and-bake pizza is great, their meats, their cheeses, snacks, etc. And good prices- and, I'm in and out of the store so quickly!

Not sure why it is a problem if the box is on the shelf and not unloaded to that same shelf from the carton. Savings for these cost custing measures are reflected in their prices. They turn their inventory quickly. You will see people picking up cases of items. I often pick up cases of veggies, fruit, grits and jelly for our local food pantry.
