How Much Is Sweet Corn in Your Area?

My daughter stopped at a local farm stand yesterday morning and corn was $5 a dozen.

She got 6 ears. We had some last night and it was really good. I will use remaining ears for corn chowder.

This was all yellow. I really prefer the bi-colored. Years ago our neighbor planted some bi-colored, it was called Butter and Sugar. He said if you want corn help yourself. DH would walk down the road, pick it, husk it and it went right into boiling water. It was the best corn I've ever had.

How are prices where you are?

Here in NW NJ, corn is .90-1.00 an ear. Very good tasting.

The only sweet corn we buy comes from Olathe, Colorado. Last week it was 6 for a dollar and not bad.

The best sweet corn in our area is $7.00 for a baker's dozen. This farmer's corn is always picked fresh each morning and is wonderful. I don't buy from anyone else. My mother always said that corn is best if it goes directly from the field to the pot.

Growing up my mom would get the water boiling and we would pick corn from the garden and run it into the house LOL. We miss sweet corn from the Midwest but what we get in the grocery store from Colorado is pretty good. I remember people selling street corn on the street.

@CrazyKittyLvr2 We get ours from our local farmer. It's $6.00/dozen. If you buy 3 dozen, you get one dozen free. Very good bicolor! I ordered 150 ears for tomorrow to freeze. That should give us about 20 quarts.

How you you like your corn? Plain, butter and salt etc. I don't have any desire for Mexican street corn. Mayo on corn just doesn't sound appetizing at all.

I am a butter and a little salt. I only pick up a salt shaker for sweet corn or a baked potato. I like it boiled or grilled.

My husband's boss had two giant bins of bi-color corn brought in for employees....he bought it from the Hutterite's in our local area. It is the best corn I've ever had. My husband brought home about 36 ears and I've frozen some on the cob, cut some from the cob to freeze and I'm going to grill some for Mexican Street Corn and then cut the grilled from some of the cobs for salad. The least expensive has been about 40 cents an ear, but it tastes nothing like the ones he brought home.

Also from NW NJ: $5.00/dozen for bicolor- $.50/ear. Corn is plentiful here!

I have cooked it on the cob and made corn fritters (yum!). I will be trying a recipe I found for sweet corn risotto soon.

bakers dozen around here is $8 now......down from a few weeks ago at $12 a dozen. as the summer goes on it is tasting even better and getting a little cheaper. i can remember when i could buy a doze for about $3!

i like it boiled with sugar/salt/cream......lots of butter and sea salt when it is on the table. i even got a butter boy to butter it easily.

@queendiva Now you have done it, you reminded me of corn fritters.

I love those little fried bits of heaven. My sister and I used to meet at a restaurant that's 1/2 way between us, Great corn fritters. We always got an order to munch on as an appetizer. The minute our favorite waitress saw us come in she put the fritter order up. She called us "the fritter sisters."

@CrazyKittyLvr2 : I always use Martha Stewart's recipe for corn fritters. Easy and very good- uses pantry staples.. The fritters must be deep fried- would never work in an air fryer.

I just bought a dozen ears of bicolor corn today at a local produce stand (one of the only places here where you can touch the produce). It was $.89 an ear. Since I signed up for their rewards program, I paid $7.92. We had some with dinner tonight and it was delicious. Around here, some of the supermarket chains are selling corn for a dozen ears for $2, but theirs can't compare to the real McCoy.

In the grocery store--4/$5--at my local natural grocery store, usually 3 for $4.
