DH was doing the cooking last evening. He is a very good cook and also very creative, so I am more than happy when he tells me he has something in mind for dinner. That being said, he is also a very messy cook, and if I own 10 frying pans he will manage to use all of them, or 15 bowls. Slight exaggeration, but you all now what I mean. The deal is, he cooks I do the clean up. Might have to renegotiate that deal! Lol

Last evening while gathering his things together for dinner prep, he knocked over an almost new bottle of olive oil in the pantry.

OMG! What a royal mess!
Now hanging on a hook in the pantry is a canvas bag loaded with grocery store plastic bags, due to COVID and not being able to use my own. So, DH is picking up the larger pieces of broken glass to throw away, and instead of grabbing one of the hundreds of grocery bags hanging right in front of him, he carries the broken pieces of glass to the kitchen trash. You got it, dripping oil all the way! I was pretty chill up to that point, but when I saw that dripping oil, lol, 🤬!
Clean up took forever. Don't want another mishap like this one.
Anyone else have doozies like this?

I have twice made the unfortunate mistake of accidentally starting my Kitchenaid on one of the higher speeds, sending flour all over the counter, floor, and ME! 😲

Normally, I use the pour shield, but did not these few times. I am a neat and clean fanatic, even while I am cooking, so this did NOT set well with me.

Well, no husband making the mess, but entirely my own mishap. I was pulling cans of the small 7.5 oz Pepsi off a 6 pack held together by those plastic rings. The goal was to stock the 6 cans into the fridge to chill. I only allow myself the small size soda very occasionally, so 6 cans is a month or more of indulgence.

I started to tug off this one can and it must have stretched the plastic ring because two cans came loose, bobbled the one out of my hand and both cans fell on the kitchen floor. No luck that maybe they would merely dent. No, they EXPLODED the pull ring off of each, spraying warm Pepsi on the lower (under counter) cabinet doors, the floor, the front of the fridge.

Major wet and sticky mess! Very.Bad.Language!!
I dumped a giant wad of paper towels to soak it up and was clever enough to drag the kitchen pail close enough not to drip the sopping wads across the floor for disposal. When I was realistically ahead of the yuck, I grabbed the sponge mop and sponged up the remaining Pepsi puddle. Rinse, repeat.

I thought a lot of water and some Fantastic spray would break down the sticky soda sugars and I would mop and wipe surfaces sufficiently. Uh, not really....

Bleccch, my shoes stuck to the floor making horrid splat noises with every step all over the kitchen. I wound up researching Google for floor washing treatments and techniques for sticky soda residue. The next morning I had to get to the supermarket to buy white vinegar, pine floor cleaner, and other "ingredients" to make a treatment-fresh water-treatment-fresh water mopping cycle to eliminate the residue. And I had to wash the entire floor, not just the "explosion zone", because some of the spray really sent a mist all over and my sticky sneakers did the rest. (Yes, cabinet doors, too)

Let's remember the insult to injury: I only got to put 4 cans in the fridge, since two of them were spilled. A lot less enjoyment of a soda treat compared to the huge nuisance of dedicated clean up.

There was no one to blame or resent but me, Madame Butterfingers.

Bad news of living alone--no one to help clean up.
Good news : no one had to hear the full throated vocabulary of expletives immediately, and during the infernal cleanup. I did not mutter.

I cooked some but he

cooked better, Southern cooking.
I had bought new dishes and he chipped one, without thinking I made a fuss. He put all those new dishes up higher and used the old.

I told him I was sorry and put them back.

His main fault was putting food on to cook and falling asleep. He did it with homemade chicken soup and got in his recliner. My son was small and came running in saying "smoke, fire!"
I removed the pot, ran outside with it yelling to DH smoke open the outside door. When I came back he was in his chair looking out the door but he hadn't opened the storm door. I did that and put a huge fan in to blow smoke outside.

Then, he called the insurance to claim the drapery cleaning which caused the insurance to go up!
I had to watch him but he was a good cook! He died 17 years ago and I really miss his cooking.

I'm usually pretty careful in the kitchen so I don't spill things and then have a mess to clean up.

However a few weeks ago as I was getting ready to make some hummingbird nectar I had my water ready to boil and was crossing the kitchen with my measuring cup full of white sugar. A truck made a loud sound outside and it startled me. The cup flew out of my hand spreading sugar all over the kitchen floor.

What a mess to clean up. I had to move the stove to sweep up the sugar that went under it.

My husband hearing me cursing at my own stupidity came into the kitchen. He took one look at my face and decided that it would be better to just keep quiet and help me clean up the mess.

The only good thing that came out of it was my kitchen floor really looked great by the time we were finished.

Not lately, but years ago we had a Borzoi (Russian wolfhound) whose head was higher than table height. One of the kids left a Costco size bottle of maple syrup (in a glass bottle) on the edge of the kitchen table. Sasha knocked the bottle off the table and onto the tile floor, which resulted in a glass encrusted sticky, syrupy mess that took hours to clean up.

DH once bought that 2 pack plastic gallons of milk (they don't sell them attached this way anymore I think because of THIS). He was bringing them into the kitchen and the attached plastic thingie broke and 2 gallons of milk broke open on my kitchen floor....under the stove, fridge etc. What a GIANT mess! Took forever to clean up and still had a stinky bad milk smell days later. He was so mad he went back and the store gave him money back (for milk) and a floor cleaner to bring home to help with the mess. They stopped offering that 2 gallon pack right after this so I think we weren't the only ones to experience a milk tidal wave.

Oh, brother, can I ever relate to that! I think it's because DH doesn't ever do the dishes. Maybe it's just a normal "man" thing. I am grateful for the cooking though.

I wish there was a way to post this anonymously because I hate to own up to this, which happened Tuesday night.

Ingredients: Me, a knife, and a bag of jalapenos.

I have cleaned these types of peppers many times without gloves with no harm done. I thought all jalapenos were created equally hot??? Although the bag did say hot and had flames on it.

About halfway through the bag, my left hand started burning, to put it mildly, so I abandoned the rest of the bag and started tending to my hand which truly felt like it had been set on fire. The right (knife) hand wasn't too bad, just the finger tips were burning. I soaked in cold water and that felt better for a while, then Goggled it and the recommendation that made sense to me was to wash my hands with water as hot as I could tolerate, so I used Dawn, hot water, and a Sponge Daddy to clean the remaining oil off my hands, and the scrubbing felt better than the burning did. It was like that for about 5 hours before it subsided enough for me to fall asleep.

I was amazed in the morning to find that my hands looked normal, I really expected them to be covered in blisters. Both hands felt fine in the morning, but out of the blue last night, my right hand started to burn when I put it under hot water. All has settled down now, except some sensitivity in my finger tips.

(Don't judge me🌶.)😊 I'm not a cook, I only pretend to be one when entering the kitchen.

I've had some doozies!

One time, speaking of oil (thankfully no glass too - YIKES!), I went through a phase with small and medium sized deep fryers. One time I had taken the container out and sealed it up and was putting it in the refrigerator after it had cooled. Well, being the klutz I am, somehow I fumbled it off the shelf and onto the kitchen floor it went.

Oil every-freakin-where! Under the refrigerator (argh), under the stove. Just awful. I wanted to just sell the house and move.

One time I forgot to take the guts out of the turkey when I was very young making my first one. Found that seared bag about halfway through. d'oh!

One time, when we used to rent this little house that had such a small kitchen it was just a little strip. The stove was on one side and the sink on the other. I took a pot of pasta in one hand and the colander in the other and as I turned around to take it to the sink, I poured the pasta into the colander mid-stream. Hot water all over me and the floor. But the pasta was ok. kind of a lose-win deal I guess.

Wow! Some of these stories are way worse than mine. We had just moved into our new house with all tile floors. I was taking a pan of lasagna (stoneware pan) out of the oven and dropped it on the tile floor. Noodles and tomato sauce everywhere along with broken shards of the dish. New kitchen floor baptized with cheese and tomato saucs! And it broke a tile.
