topic Do brownies come out really soft if too much oil is used? in Kitchen

I wanted brownies and didn't feel like making my usual homemade brownies using wheat flour, so I used 2 boxes of sugar-free brownie mix and there was instructions for a double batch which I followed to the letter. It called for 2/3 cup oil. My sister didn't like them so gooey. She said I used too much oil. I also put in maybe 1/3 cup of sugar-free chocolate chips.

I usually make them with half oil/half applesauce, so I'm not familiar with making them with all oil. Can I cut back on the oil next time and the brownies come out a little more cake-like?

TIA!
