The most important thing to know, when buying Corning Ware pieces is to make sure you are getting the older ones made of Pyroceram, and not the newer ones that are Chinese-made stoneware.

They are remarkably different.

The good thing is that it's easy to find the older stuff and way more often than not you can find them in brand new condition, even on ebay and sites such as that.

A lot of them will take a pic of the bottom (outside bottom) where you see the completely shiny bottom that is slightly rounded around the edge. The ones that are the newer ones have the type of bottom you see on stoneware. It's not shiny and there is a raw edge. Plus, it says 'Stoneware' and 'Made in China' on the bottom.

I have quite a few pieces of the French White and French Black, all Pyroceram and they will last lifetimes. Yes, multiple lifetimes. They stay pristine. Many of mine are decades old and still look and perform as brand new. Plus, they are more attractive than the stoneware ones.

Just an FYI from the peanut gallery. Happy day to all.

I have 4 small blue corn flower square casserole dishes with all the glass tops and a few of the original snap on plastic lids. Those lids look scratchy and cloudy but still fit great. NI use them all the time. I also have a 3qt. I had one tiny one (like for jello ) and I think I threw it out last time I cleared my kitchen out, along with the cornflower coffee pot that I burned. It looked brown and yucky and I couldn't get it clean. I had to let it go because it was annoying me and reminding me how forgetful I was.

Still remember who gifted me: my SIL's mom.

I loved them because they go on the stove and in the oven and microwave and you can see when the water is boiling, rice is cooked, etc. Only downside is that over time I dropped pieces and they broke. I have always found replacements at thrift stores for these and the OG Corningware casseroles, all of which are in my kitchen.

I also have a few of the French White pieces and often gift them for bridal showers. They go in the oven, microwave and now Instant Pot.

You might also check thrift shops (if they're open). My Aunt managed her church's thrift shop for years and much of their merchandise came from estates. I was always surprised at the variety of merchandise and at the low prices.

I love my Corningware pie pans. I have quite a few of them because they were so hard to find for awhile. I bought them at flea markets, garage sales, and estate sales. I also have a good collection of casserole dishes. Best products ever!

You might try your local antique malls. Probably a bit more expensive, though. Corningware and Pyrex are coming out of the woodwork at our local auctions.
