Freezers coming out in August

Never had one but now need a small one so went to Lowes, Home Depot & another place same story not to be found until August. I know price of food going up want a small freezer to get threw all this stuff as meat prices going up faster than last week. I ask to pre order (not seen} no they will not do that. I hope they don't ask a huge price because of demand. If you have a freezer be thankful. So if you want a freezer you have to wait til august.

You checked all the obvious stores like everybody else - and a relative of mine did

too She found & bought one at Overstock.com and is very happy with it.

I don't mind buying 2nd hand for some things.

Freezer, yes.

Where I live, there are a few appliance stores selling 2nd hand. The items are usually refurbished trade in's or scratch & dent. When you walk in the store & look around, it looks like a just new appliance store. Very clean & organized.

I'm guessing the factory shut down during the virus spike causing the delay.

We have always had a second refrigertor in our garage. I just cannot get by with one frig and freezer. Maybe consider that, then you would have both

According to news - most appliances now come from China. None made in the US. I've had my 6 ft freezer over 30 years - Westinghouse - and it's full all the time. I stock up on strawberries this time of year - and then meat as Fall approaches.

Depending on what you mean by small, you are not going to find one at any of the box stores.

You are going to have to order it from an on-line source like Amazon or Walmart and have it delivered.

Just went through this in early February.

@sissel I only wish it was August. I purchased one at Lowes yesterday because I want to replace my very old energy inefficient one with a smaller "energy star" one, and it won't be delivered until October 28th.

I'm not in a huge hurry, but am very surprised that the lead time is out that far. Was on sale with a 12 month no interest promotion.

Mine says manufactured in USA so hopefully that means it's 100% made here, but who knows what they consider manufactured....put together here by imported parts?

@sissel I own three freezers. One upright and two chests. The last one I purchased, I got from Wayfair. Delivery was prompt and free and the price was good.

i just checked, and they have freezers in stock. You might want to check them out.

@jackthebear There used to be five, but there is only two of us now.

I freeze a lot of fruits and vegetables, baked goods, soups and premade meals. I home can too. I cook extra and freeze for later. Yesterday, I froze 13 quarts of sour cherries picked from my tree.

The last smaller chest freezer that I bought was for our summer place. We boat a lot and use plenty of ice. That freezer mostly contains ice and ice cream.

My little garage chest freezer went out the end of last year. It was only 20 years old, how could it . Of course, I'm kidding, it was a faithful appliance. I even gave her a name. Should've replaced it before the pandemic.

Beware if you're buying a big appliance. Many are only delivering to a designated door. They don't come in, nor can you arrange to have the old appliance removed.

A friend had her fridge go out and they would only deliver just inside the garage door. So, she shoved it, herself, to a plug and there it stays, until she can get some help and junk pick-up for the old fridge.

Everything is SO difficult now. Some tasks impossible, if you're secluding by yourself.

Agreeing with @BlueFinch, check the terms of delivery for your appliances.

There isn't much B & M shopping where I live so I went online to buy a new stand alone freezer in March. Delivery terms were they drop it off at the end of your driveway at the curb. Still in the box.

For inside, unboxed, plugged in, haul away the packaging it was $115 EXTRA. I had to ask the driver to level it as it wobbled. I'm stunned I wasn't charged for that, too.

It's been worth every single penny so far.

Thinking go to plan b get a smal side by side for the garage do drinks & use freezer I don't need huge. wow some have many freezers suprised me.

OUr Sam's Club has had freezers off and on a lot lately. They are small, the chest freezers I bought a few weeks ago are only 5 cubic foot, and they had about a dozen uprights, rather small too, this week when I was in there.

I called around several weeks ago to all the usual places, and was told July and that was if you got on a wait list. I'm sure by now it is August or beyond for most places.

@Carmie I don't think her call out worked so hoping this does.

@Razzy 7I(tiny 2) much prefer an upright. They are so much easier to organize and reach everything. My mom always had a large chest freezer. I could not deal with one due to RA.

Sorry, I didn't see your comments.

Uprights are easy to find things and keep them organized. They also are more expensive to operate. When you open the door, you expose all of the food to the warm air in the room and it takes a while for the freezer to get back to the correct temp.

Things can shift and if they block a door from closing correctly, your food can thaw...it has happened more than once to me. I was lucky nothing was completely thawed because it was caught in time.

Chest freezers are ackward. I use tubs to keep food in or else things get lost. You might want something burried in the bottom and can't find it. They are cheaper to run and the temp does not drop once the door is opened. Food doesn't shift and you can pack more things in there in the same amount of space as the upright.

If you just want a freezer to store extras...I would get an upright.

If you want to store serious foods..like sides of beef and a garden's bounty of summer produce, I would get a chest freezer and organized with plastic milk crates, etc.
