Beware: Garlic from China !

Just received an order from instacart and the garlic said "Product of China". In the trash it went. Please be aware of country of manufacture folks and stores need to be more transparet on their web sites. I will call the store manager tomorrow morning. China has very lax standards for pesticides and herbicides. Their waters are polluted and they use raw sewage as fertilizer. I will no longer consume any product from the dirty country of China.

I was under the misperception that the majority of our garlic is still grown here, as it was once widely known to be. This news is disheartening for some, to be sure, but not surprising. I am however, surprised at the SCALE of produce we import.

I'm amazed at the numerous xenophobic comments about products coming from China. What would some of you do it you had to eat at a food truck that was run by someone who doesn't have your ancestry? Would you automatically assume the food served doesn't meet your criteria? That's exactly what these comments say to me!

Pardon me for not wanting to consume bleach. The Chinese frequently coat their garlic with a bleach to cover mold and also fumigate it with a neuro toxin called methyl chloride. The # of imported medicines and foods from China is staggering and needless. USA # 1. I am proud American who wants to support American farmers even if it costs more.

@Reever What is the source of your information? The only thing I see making such claims is an unsubstantiated report published in India about products sold there. It's scientific basis is questionable.

If your concern is purchasing food grown in the US, then shop locally and pay more like Whole Foods and stay away from Aldi and research locally sourced food.
