Himalayan Pink Salt

A poster on another thread mentioned stocking up on Himalayan Pink Salt. Is anyone familiar with this salt? And, if so, can you tell me how it is different tasting to regular salt?

Funny, there is a coupon today for this in the newspaper, Morton brand. I have seen it in the supermarkets, just never knew what it is used for and the ad in the paper doesnt say much about it.

I bought the pink and the regular sea salt last year and I will never go back to table salt.

It taste so much better and its just different. I love it!

I have a grinder of it. I bought it because it was different. It's supposed to be a little better for you than regular salt. To me, salt is salt is salt. I use a very small about of salt, so I doubt I am getting any benefit. I don't think there is any taste difference. Maybe a real cook would wouldn't agree. LOL

Got the coarse pink salt from Vitacost just for boiling pasta.It makes a huge difference.Once I was out and bought cheap coarse salt in the store,Tha pasta tasted bad.

I was surprised at that too @Bibione. Pasta I made with the Himalayan salt was much better. I bought a grinder and refill it with coarse salt (small bags they sell at the supermarket).

I think I've had a small grinder of pink salt from TJ years ago - can't remember the exact taste but I knew it didn't taste as salty - eating it by itself.

I now have a larger grinder of sea salt but when I need a tsp or somthing like that, I do use table salt. When that runs out, maybe I'll buy a gridner of pink salt again

have you ever tried flaky sea salt? it is so good on roasted potatoes

I love the Himalayan Pink Salt. I purchased mine online from SaltWorks Inc, I bought a 6oz. bottle of the fine salt. I try to limit the amount of salt that we use so we've had this bottle for months and are still have over half of it left.

I don't use it for salting pasta water though. For that I always use Kosher salt. I like to put a little salt on apple slices and this Pink salt is just delicious on them.

After using different types, I discovered the benefit of coarse Kosher salt and will use nothing but that for certain things, while using finer-ground iodized Morton's salt at other times.

I use coarse Kosher salt for prepping potatoes and vegetables with oil-- for roasting.

I don't expect others to agree with me........this is just what I've decided from my own experience. Salt might be just salt, no matter what we use, after all.

Perhaps there's no need to get picky about it--but I've gotten picky. No more Himalayan or sea salt, because my current choices work just fine--especially Morton's Kosher salt.

Morton's Kosher salt is what I use too. I love their coarse salt for pasta water and even for putting on my roasted sweet potatoes. It's inexpensive and works fine. I save the more expensive Himalayan salt for the few items that I do love to flavor.

I've weaned myself off of using much salt. In my younger years I was just salt addicted.

My husband has never used much salt so he certainly doesn't miss it.

I bought the pink salt because it is suppose to have minerals in it that we need. I have a RO system and it takes all the minerals out of our water.

I think the pink salt is less salty tasting which is a good thing. I like salt on certain things but not a lot.

I won't use regular salt again.
