How about a NON- GOURMET Food Show!

It seems that if you put the word "GOURMET" in front of a food item you can charge 3 times the price. How about a show for the average blue collar customer. The prices for the food is crazy. I could give a list of examples ,but all you need to do is take the cost divided by the quanity and it is way too over priced for the average customer. Plus, the advertising for Free Shipping is misleading , is it really free or is it included in the total price??

of course the price of shipping is included in the total price. Most of the time, QVC wouldn't ship a pair of diamonique stud earrings for free, their certainly not gonna ship steaks, cheesecakes, lobster etc.. for free. The hosts only say that because they think the consumer is oblivious to the fact.

I don't consider chicken wings, hot dogs or hamburgers gourmet foods. Sounds pretty blue collar to me.

Gourment is just the name of the show to entice customers to watch.

QVC has plenty of variety if people want to buy from them.

The S&H used to be separate, but that hurt sales, so yes, it's now included in the price of the product.

If you are going to delete anything...delete the word Holiday! LOL

The shows are shown all year long and there isn't always an upcoming holiday!

I am a 'blue collar worker' and order a lot of food.

I have been mostly pleased and am on AD for many. I think the quality of what I buy is good and the prices comparable.

Some items are hard to find locally for me such as Sea Bass.

If the pricing is more than what you want to pay, then don't!

It's not the word gourmet that does it, it's the mail order. Mail order food always comes with an elevated price, especially if it's something that has a big following in the local area.

That's the response I got once for making a simple statement. OP isn't saying anything is wrong with blue collar...........instead I believe she is saying.....WE are blue collar people. So do away with fancy titles and offer US prices we can afford.There's no reason to attack OP for using common words.

You are paying for the convience of it being delivered to your door. Many items we cannot buy in our area. Plus the time & gas etc to go searching for it.

We are retired so our time is our own. Living in MI gas has always been $$,but lately cost is ok. Today it is $2.32.

We play the "food game" w/the calculator. DH loves it. The prices are just too high and have found sme stuff at a local chain food store for less.

I hate to have to wait for UPS and the quanties are so large,even w/frreezing they will be forever in our freezer.

@Original Squeaker .... I agree. The name of the program should be changed. It is misleading. The word "gourmet" means high quality, expensive, or a specialty food.

Nothing QVC has on the Gourmet shows, in my opinion, falls in any of those categories. The only reason the price is high is because of the free shipping, employees' salaries & benefits, travel, etc.

Also, read the OP post. They did not say there was anything wrong with blue collar workers or customers. You should read the post carefully before criticizing.

actually there is ALWAYS a holiday coming up.......right now it will be easter, the spring equinox, passover, and st patricks day........then it is memorial day.......then 4th of july.......then the end of summer with labor day........then we roll along to halloween, thanksgiving, hanukkah, and christmas........then before you know it it is new years and everything begins all over again. PLUS throughout the year others celebrate ethnic holidays and religious holidays.

i like and buy some of the food qvc sells......i enjoy viewing some of the food shows, no matter what they are called.

That's true but often the next Holiday is pretty far away!

After New years, it is a month and a half til Valentines Day!! Then a full month til St. Patty etc.

I don't watch the shows any longer because the hosts they use are not the best anymore, but I don't have a problem w/ their title actually! Maybe neither word applies all the time!

How about just Food Fest or Feast!

WIth the advent of online retailers much of what can be bought at Store A is also at Store B. The convenience is part of it. Other times it is the name as in the network chef who has put his name on EVERYTHING as of late.

Thankfully I am in a good location where many food products from QVC are available at local stores at a cheaper price/smaller quantity for those who may want to dip their toes rather than diving head first.

Some people just dont shop around and fall prey to QVC's price gouging of food items.

Heres one example: Anderson Seafoods 3 lbs of Wild Patagonian shrimp selling for $90.72 ( breaks down to $30.24/lb). Trader Joes sells the same wild caught Argentenian shrimp in a 1 lb bag for $9.99. Thats a savings of 66 percent !! I realize Trader Joes being a huge supermarket has better economies of scale than QVC does but still a 66 percent mark up is insane.
