Shopping Multiple Stores For Groceries

When I lived in California, my main grocery store was Nob Hill. I'd go to Safeway once in a while if they had good sales and coupons. I also shopped Walmart and Target (sometimes the most) for my groceries and for all household items because Safeway and Nob Hill were so expensive. I now live in the Southeast. The two grocery store chains in my area are Kroger and Publix. I mostly shop Kroger because they are less expensive and for the fuel points. But I find myself shopping the 3 Kroger stores close to me for the things I need. One store has the better meat department and is always less crowded. Hardly ever a line. Another store carries the coffee I like and the ice cream my daughter but does not carry the milk my daughter drinks. This Kroger has the worst meat and produce department which is strange because they're the largest and busiest. The 3rd Kroger has the best produce. However, it's hit or miss here. They don't keep the shelves stocked and run out of things quickly. Just wondering if any one else has a situation like this.

I mostly shop Publix. They just have more of the brands I prefer. But, I do shop Kroger for bread, Xochitl chips which Publix recently quit carrying, and a few other items Publix doesn't carry. I prefer Publix's meat/fish department, and they have a better selection of cheese, eggs, and even paper products. Kroger also doesn't carry my peanut butter of choice, Reese's.

4 locals are my standard go to grocery stores;

IGA for a quick weekday pick up for something quick (hubby gets rolls for sandwiches from them and I like their seltzers)

Acme for a small order (organic produce and some frozen veggies etc...) about a 70-100.00 order

Whole Foods for organic meat and fish ONLY...I actually do not like anything else they sell, not even the produce. (we shop there 1 or 2 times a month max)

Wegman's for the largest orders - organic produce, wild caught salmon or cod, organic poultry too sometimes if we haven't been to Whole Foods.

OH! and all my husbands SNACKS!

My groceries are home delivered from a private firm. They purchase from Shoprite.

All meats are purchased from a butcher shop. I get my steaks & veal mixed hamburger from them.

I personally purchase my other meats from Acme - better quality. I love their "Lancaster" brand.

Farm raised Salmon - Acme

Game meats - From relatives who hunt

Milk - Walgreens: better prices than Shoprite

Case of Pepsi & wine - BJ's

Certain products are purchased at each of these stores weekly:

Sam's and/or Costco

Sprout's and/or Whole Foods

Trader Joe's

I buy probably 80% of my groceries from Trader Joe's and Sprouts, and fortunately they are located in the same shopping center. I buy the remainder from Sam's Club and Target. The store closest to me are two Safeways, but the produce in both stores never looks fresh, so I rarely go there. I've started buying more bulk veggies from Sam's because it's a MUCH better value, as long as it's fresh enough (I cook and shop for one, so I try to get the freshest produce possible).

I shop much less at Whole Foods since the Spouts went in close to TJs. WF is out of my way, so I go there when I just need certain items I can only find there.

Today Sam's had a great deal on fresh organic blueberries, I think it was $4.48 for 18 oz so three of those came home with me. Always buy my coffee at Sam's too.

I joined Thrive Market in January as an experiment, so I have placed three orders there this year.

Have to add, I do like grocery shopping!

I do our main shopping at Harris Teeter and Walmart with monthly trips to Trader Joe's sprinkled in. I live in the SE too.

Costco, Sam's, and Aldi's are my most frequent stores. About every six weeks I shop at the Wal-Mart Super Center to pick up everything that need to replenished that the other places don't have.

Multiple stores for me too:

Walmart - weekly for cat food, household items and snacks (most everything except meat and produce)

Dierbergs - (local) - meat, produce and deli

Sam's - wine and whatever else I find!

I shop at Publix. If they don't have it, I don't need it.

I will occasionally, and I mean VERY occasionally, stop at Kroger for something but I am not interested in chasing the groceries all around town.

I'm a one store and done grocery shopper.

We don’t have Publix here. I shop at Kroger because I like their store brands of several things I buy...and their prices are lower than Walmart. I buy my meat and most produce at Sprouts. I also buy some groceries, mostly frozen things, at Costco.

A Smaller natural grocery store--excellent produce that is all organic, great deals on organic eggs and good deal on milk.

If I run low on national brand canned goods, I will do a pickup order from WalMart sometimes. We only have Homeland and Wal Mart and I don't like either.

We buy meat from Whole Foods (great beef) and local butcher, and buy almost all basic foods. We buy very few packaged foods, convenience foods or snacks. Costco has had good frozen veggies and fruits and a great selection of organic food.

I shop at Walmart or Fred Meyer (a local chain store) for all of our staples. For our produce I always shop at a local organic market.

About once a month or so we go to Whole Foods because my husband just loves their variety of whole grain breads. I always buy several loaves and freeze them. WF has great produce but it is too expensive to buy on a regular basis.

I like Costco, but with just the two of us it's not practical to purchase a large variety of their products. We always purchase their chicken caesar salad from their food court and share it for dinner on the days we shop there.

I divide my shopping (southeast PA) among Wegmans, Giant, ShopRite, and Acme. Wegmans has the best everyday prices, but the other three have better sales and digital coupons.

Trader Joe's, Fresh Market, and Whole Foods are nearby, and they are fun, but not practical for my everyday shopping. A Sprouts will open next month.

Aldi's is a little bit out of the way, so I don't go there often, but I like it.

Walmart and Target are both poor excuses for a supermarket; I never go to the former and rarely to the latter. Not only that, but I've never been impressed by their prices.

I used to shop only Publix for meats, produce and BOGOs if good deal.

But, they opened a nice new Winn Dixie & it's become my "go to" store for meats and BOGOs. When they have BOGO they don't increase the single price of items and lots more of the brands we use are usually BOGO.

Paper products, cat food, soda, water, bread, etc. &misc. things I shop our "neighborhood walmart". It's basically food with health & beauty, baby stuff, paper products, pet & some other things. Not everything like super walmart.

And recently they opened a Sprouts in our area. The produce is always fresh and I like they have olive bar. They also have some good frozen food selections. Our Publix has terrible produce☹️

Being retired (only cook for 2) I can go on off times when it's less crowded.

I wish we had Trader Joe's...

I only WISH I could shop at one store.

1. We must have the only lousy Publix in FL. Vegetables that should be thrown out, meat that is mediocre at best, many empty shelves of pantry items.

2. No close Trader Joe's, Whole Foods or Costco. Used to belong to Sam's Club, but the quantities are too much for 2.

3. Closest Winn Dixie went out of business.

4. Using Walmart Neighborhood Market more and more, but DH likes to shop early so that leaves out Aldi.

5 Have searched for butchers. Closest is "Quality Discount Meats" which is an overstatement. Best one is 27 miles away.

We don't limit ourselves to just one grocery store. One store does not meet all our needs.

For grocery stores we shop- Hannafords, Market Basket, Whole Foods, Wegmans.

For bulk items we shop- BJ's, Costco.

For better meats we shop- McKinnens (local butcher shop).

We also shop our local fruit and veggie stands in season along with growing our own.

It is good to have choices that meet your needs.
