A few years back I bought a stainless steel french door Kitchen Air fridge. It was $1500--a lot for this retired senior citizen.

I had a service call onit soon after--a .crack in the 25 cent plastic tube from the icemaker caused it to leak on the floor under it.

Now it has a flimsy wire that came loose (thinner than a dry cleaner hanger) that you flip up to stop the making of ice cubes, or put down when you don't need any more. Well, that .05 wire can't be reattached so every time I pull out the bottom freezer drawer, a whole pile of ice cubes cascades all ovr the back of the drawer and I have to pick the pot full of cubes up one at a time before I can close the freezer back wher it belongs. I refuse to pay $99 for a service call, so I am stuck and swear every time.

Not to mention the stainless steel has rust that won't come off. I thought stainless steel was rust-proof. Guess not.

So because of the cheapness of the parts of this very expensive appliance, I absolutely hate it. If it didn't cost so much I would buy a new one.

By the way I called the Kitchenaid customer service and they were no help. Would just tell me where I could call for service.

Wish I had my 12 yr. old fridge back. They don't make appliances like they used to.

Thanks for letting me vent. I'll bet others have had this problem, too.

Wow! I am really sorry for your justifiable frustration with what should be a dependable product, as Kitchenaid is known for quality, and purportedly stellar customer service. Because it is so distressing for you, it might be worth a try to initiate the service call, in spite of the 99.00 investment. It certainly is cheaper than a new one, and hopefully soon you will be stress free.😊 This is the perfect place to vent, because we don't charge.😁

~~~All we need is LOVE💖
My understanding is that all the fridges are made in the same Chinese factories, just with different exteriors, names and logos on them but the internal workings are the same.  I had similar problem you had not long after I purchased new stainless steel kitchen appliances 12 years ago.  The service man was not from GE but from an open shop sort of place that services all kinds of electrical appliances (that is what I got when I called the 1-800 number given me in the booklet).  He says he works on all of them and they are all the same nowadays.    His advice to me about my problem was to unplug the fridge every month or so for a few minutes and let it cool down.  What!  Yes, that's what he told me.  I never heard of such and I have never done it.  The fridge has worked okay since he was there.
Depending on where you live, you may get better results from a local handyman type guy.  I finally found a good one myself,, he's seen everything, ,he's fixed everything.   Sometimes a guy like that, with no formal training on one brand knows a more practical fix.
Your icemaker is not set properly for you to have such an overflow problem.
And that's an easy fix you can do yourself.
Find some videos on Youtube.  You'll find someone with the same problem & how they fixed it.
Steer clear of Kitchen aid. Must not have been reading my posts about their mixers. Not talking about the mixers from 20-30 yrs ago I'm talking about the new ones. Plus, the food processors aren't worth  ding dong either.
I know people will huff and puff and disagree, but, my experience is they're not worth the money any more. LG, by the way makes good appliances.
I read this thread with interest.  I have a KitchenAid side-by-side that will be 20 years old in August.  It was new when we built our home.  It's still working just fine.
Only problem is that I have come to hate the side-by-side and we've swapped all our other appliances to black and the fridge is bisque.  Everytime I contemplate buying a new fridge, I hesitate for the very reasons I've read on these forums.  It seems like you might as well just toss the brands into a hat and select one.  And definitely go for the  most basic model out there.  The more bells and whistles, the more expensive things to go wrong.
We had a Frigidaire freezer that died on us last year at only 6 1/2 years old.  The compressor had gone and it had failed once already, so we got rid of it and bought a new one  (NOT a Frigidaire).  Fingers crossed it lasts longer; a freezer shouldn't die that soon.  And, of course, we lost everything that was packed into it.
That's what I did when I bough a new washer I got Whirlpool's cheapest one think it was 425.  Last one I had played a little tune there at the end and all that jazz. You know what on all that stuff. Not falling for it any more.
I bought this fridge because it was a tad bigger then my last side by side and it was easy to access the filter and the ice cube tray was easier to lift up
I checked it out upside down and backwards before I paid for it.
I bought last yr Jan 2019, think this is the last yr for it. Dryers and freezers are the best they last forever. I got a frost free tall freezer that thawing out business is for the birds. You know what on that too. LOL
We have had to replace ours with each of our refrigerators. One bit of advice I can offer is to establish a relationship with a local appliance store that has an established reputation. The store we work with has been around for 3/4 of a century. They do all sorts of electrical installations and offer limited brands of appkiances. We usually buy the least expensive appliance that they can still recommend. They stand behind everything and fix whatever may show up for no charge except parts. We are very happy with them.
@hellokitty- Must be more than a year ago that I bought a 9-speed Kitchenaid mixer from QVC, when it was a TSV.  When I got it, took it out of the box and was unimpressed to say the least.  It had clearly been used and put back in the box (scratches, something smeared on it).  I did put the beaters in and switched it on and one of them wobbled a lot.  Sent it back.
Went to Kohl's and bought another 9-speed for less money with my coupon and it feels heavier and works perfectly.  Also came in a Kitchenaid box (not a generic brown box), with a bag for the attachments.
Difference?  The one from the Q was made in China.  The one from Kohl's was made in the U.S.A..  I'm very skeptical of the large quantities the Q gets for their inventory.
So far I have had good luck with the Kitchen Aid I have purchased from the Q.  However, I went to Greenville, OH (the home of Kitchen Aid) once to see if I could get an accessory for my mixer that the Q didn't sell.  When I told the sales person the model number and where I had purchased the mixer she told me good luck with my mixer.
I do think some appliances are made in China with different names stamped on them.  Just like clothes are made there and the different labels sewn in.
I don't want nothing from China right now at the present.
I know a couple going to Hawaii for 2 wks. Count me out I'm not getting on a plane unless it's going to Heaven.
Just how old is your fridge?  You stated a few years back,  how long is a few years back?  If that is the only problem you have had, (while its a pain in the behind,) is pretty good odds compared to horror stories about refridgerators from many others.
