I don't eat cereal any more, but when I had kids who did, I had a great Tupperware container that had a big pour spout on the top. It fit a box of cereal just perfect and was easy to use and easy to clean. I've seen Lock n Lock containers that are designed for this as well.

All you can do is keep it from getting soggy in an air-tight container. Nothing will keep the flavor from deteriorating over time. Lock 'n Lock makes some suitable up right containers. They just had a set as a TSV last week.

I use lock n lock containers made for cereal. They have pour spouts. I don't use that feature as I keep the cereal in their original bag and am able to get 2 into a container. They stay fresh for a very long time.

I keep Hot Cereal in smaller LnL containers and pour the contents of the box right into the container. Keeps very well.

My experience is that the key to keeping cereal fresh in an actual cereal keeper, is to leave the cereal in the bag. Regardless of the brand of cereal keeper, enough air gets in thru the lift open pour spout to ruin the cereal, unless it is still in the bag. I have 3 of this type of cereal keepers, and you will always find bags of cereal inside them.

I also use 2 tall LocknLock containers for cereal storage. The silicone seal under the lid keeps cereal fresh for a very long time. I can pour cereal straight into these containers and not worry about it getting stale.

It also depends on how long you keep an opened bag. We buy the big Costco boxes of Cheerios and Red Berry Flakes for only two people. We also keep the cereal in it's original bag, then put in aL and L. That works fine.
