I have seen her kitchen. It was surprisingly humble. It reminds me that you do not need a new fancy, giant kitchen to be a good cook. Julia was a famous and renowned chef and was happy in her small practical kitchen.

I love articles that show kitchens that are homey and created to really work in and not just designed for show.

@shoesnbags I would never compare oilcloth to a plastic cover.

For her day, that WAS a very high tech kitchen. It has a Vitamix blender and a Cuisinart. I was the first person I ever knew who had a Cuisinart--in the mid to late 1970's I'm thinking?

She had pots and pans that were copper, and Le Creuset, and all sorts of strainers and great knives and things you would never see in an ordinary kitchen at that time.

But I couldn't stand the clutter in this one!

That actual kitchen was (probably still is) displayed at the Smithsonian (maybe American history museum?). Very interesting, and not that small (imho).

I have never owned one of her cookbooks, nor have I ever cooked one of her recipes, but I always loved watching her show. I still watch her baking show from time to time, but it was produced in her later years so she mostly has guest bakers. Still, I just love her!

Can't imagine keeping all the pots, pans, knives, stuff on the counters, free of dust. Kitchen looks cluttered; however, she has everything at her fingertips.

The article says her cleaning people keep the kitchen pristine, but it looks kind of dirty in the pictures...

The closeups of the walls and light switches, etc. don't look pristine to me.

I think she kept everything she needed right at hand. She authored many cookbooks and cooked all of the recipes. I believe she didn’t want to go hunting around for all the paraphernalia that she needed. And this was from years ago.

Ugh! I hate pans hanging on the wall or from an overhead pot rack. And looks like a lot of walking back and forth required. I have my sink, stovetop, refrigerator, oven and island in a "work triangle" that requires only a couple of steps to reach each one.
