I can spend hours browsing ebay and other sites for vintage Pyrex baking dishes and fridge ware. I also love milk glass.

I'm slowly replacing my plastic stuff with it. I have to be very selective, due to lack of space and lack of money, but when I get the "right" piece I'm in heaven.

Does anyone else collect it?

I have some pieces which I will never part with. Didn't start out trying to ""collect it"". Most were shower gifts from back in the '60's or some of my Mom's old pieces.

I much prefer it to the clunky Temptations type bakeware or serving dishes.

We just visited a mall that had a whole section dedicated to vintage Pyrex, so you are not alone. Love looking for antiques, enjoy your new to you purchases.

I don't 'collect' per se. I just happened to be an only daughter, so most of my Pyrex belonged to my grandmother and mother. I do have a few newer pieces, but still love and use my loaf pans (both the straight sided and flared sides), cake pans, pie plates, 6 X 9, 9 X 13 bakers among others. Many of my pieces date back to 1916.

Don't like the newer pieces, as they are made of tempered glass and are more FAR prone to breaking and shattering. My old Pyrex is made of borosilicate glass, unlike the Pyrex currently sold in the US. Just try to make something that requires preheating the pan. If you use the old borosilicate stuff, no problem. With the newer Pyrex tempered glass, it WILL break.

If shopping second-hand markets, you can generally tell the old from new by the trademark and also, the newer Pyrex has an ever so slight bluish tint, most noticable when you look at the pieces from the side where you can see the thicker bottom.

<IMG

I don't collect it, but I still have the 2-cup measuring cup that I bought in 1968 when I moved into my first apartment. It's been battered around quite a bit over the years & not a chip or crack anywhere, though the markings have faded.

I kept some of my Pyrex (from the 60's) when I started buying Temptations--just in case. I don't use the Pyrex now though as it isn't as attractive and too hard to clean compared to TT. I don't collect Pyrex or TT.

I don't collect, per se, but I have quite a bit. Wow, maybe I DO collect.

Anyway, I have a set of Pyrex glass mixing bowls that I received as a gift somewhere between 30 and 40 years ago. They are the ones that are clear with little white flowers painted on, all around the middle of each bowl. They are beautiful bowls.

I also have a 1c, 2c, and 4c of the older Pyrex liquid measure cups. I like the old ones because they had the full 'D' handle, instead of the open handle ones they make now.

I also have a couple of the 9x13 rectangular baking dishes. One is the milk glass type one with red designs around the outside. I believe there are chickens on there and I cannot remember what else - maybe hearts I'm thinking (?). I'm pretty sure that one is vintage. I also have a purple clear glass 9x13 and 8" square. I'm not sure if those are the old Borosilicate or the newer soda lime glass. I have a feeling they are the newer stuff. But I've used the square on in a 450F oven many times, making cornbread, and so far so good.

I wish I knew how to determine what is Borosilicate and what is soda lime. Even though my measuring cups are definitely vintage, I still won't put them in the microwave or anything. I baby those. They are almost totally like new still. I got them years ago on ebay. I'm sure I had some of them back in the day but who knows what happened to them back then. I just don't like the new ones at all.

For storage-wear, however, I use mostly Lock & Lock. I have an extensive (massive understatement) collection of the plastic and quite a few pieces of the Borosilicate glass Lock & Lock. This brand is THE best, outside of vacuum sealing, for storage wear.

Like the above poster, I don't consider myself a collector. Let's just say I do seem to have amassed more than a few pieces. IMO, there's nothing like original pyrex for durability, either. I especially like the glass percolators, and have them in various sizes/shapes. I think they look nice on the stove, too.

Last fall, DH and I were at a large antique shop. We'd gone our separate ways around the place, then I spotted him, very still with his hands in his pockets, staring at something about 10 feet in front of him. Sure enough, it was yet another Pyrex pot. He was probably wondering if he should tell me lol. As it turned out, I already had that style!

Your neighborhood antique mall is a good place to start your Pyrex search. No shipping and reasonable prices in most cases. I've been roasting in it my whole life, I'll buy a new piece every once in awhile. I just went and checked, the brown is Pyrex, the cobalt is Anchor Hocking. There is also some Corning Ware, but I usually just use the glass. Habit, I guess.

I'm not a collector, just have the stuff from when I got married in '78 along with some that were my mom's.

I did pick up 2 sets of pyrex nesting bowls at an antique shop. $40.00. I kept one and gave one to my D-I-L. Love these bowls!! Now that my daughter moved out, she'd like a set too, so next time I hit the flea markets I'll look for a set. I pretty much see them at every flea market/antique shop I go into.

Yes, House Cat,

I am a collector, too. I can't think of how many times I have reached for my set of graduated Cinderella bowls thru the years. When my first husband and I went our separate ways, I let him have the set. I have missed them so much these past 12 years, that I have started to collect them myself, along with corelle, and corning ware. I spend a lot of nights when I can't sleep, looking at ebay for these items too. I have one very special piece of milk glass but would love to have some jadite. I use my stovetop corelle coffee pot every morning to make my coffee-it is the white pot with the cornflower blue flowers and makes the best, truly hot coffee. Doubt I will ever go back to a coffeemaker again. I have a huge collection of vintage Pfaltzgraff Yorktowne pattern that I have collected over that past 30 years, too. Happy to "meet" another collector of at least one of my houseware addictions! Happy hunting!

I have a couple of pieces that were my mom's and grandmother's....I won't part with them. I am still looking to replace a large bowl that I used constantly for mixing things. I should check eBay! Thanks for bringing this up!

I have some old Pyrex bake ware, never give it up. I have given my daughter several large bake ware items all Pyrex that I have had since the 60's. I kept the smaller Pyrex ware.

the item I fall back on is 1 cake pan 9x13. I have no idea who made it. I got it when 1st married. It is a metal pan. not dark metal. it fits into my counter oven nicely. heats evenly, even after all these years (40+++) years. I love that pan and it is my usual go to pan. I wish I could find another one of these bake pans.

No, but I have seen Pyrex called Tally Ho that has fox hunting scenes on it. As a horse owner and lover, I would love to have some, have seen it on eBay. The problem is I can only find it in the UK - the pieces are not that expensive, but it is the shipping that puts the pieces out of reach money-wise.

Yes, definitely Love my old pyrex.!!!! I have a few larger pieces but more of the smaller sizes. 1 1/2 qt. round and oblong. and a few of the tiny square ones. I frequently store my leftovers in these....Although I have newer plastic containers such as lock&lock, I find that I prefer the old pyrex most of the time!!! They are easy to clean, and there's just something about using them that I enjoy............I like old things. I have accumulated these over time, from antique fairs, estate sales etc,.

I love the vintage Pyrex, Fire King, and Corningware. They were made well and in a time where things made in the USA were prime and people in factories took pride in their work. I feel they are work horses in the kitchen....tried and true...and stand the test of time. Lots of good memories of with these old pieces too

I hope Luna shows up here, because she has amassed a pyrex collection, bar none I have seen!

The pyrex pieces I have are old, very old. 40-50 years old. I inherited those from my MIL. I have learned , like Chickenbutt not to put them in the microwave or dishwasher. It can etch the glass because they are so old. But the main reason is I love them so much, and don't want to loose them!
