I have become the laziest grocery shopper ever

I discovered online grocery shopping when I started ordering groceries for my mother, who's 97. Then I tried it for myself and I got hooked. I've been ordering from Aldi's because their prices are good, their deliveries are efficient, and they have interestiñg imported products. Their German soups are the best. Just before Thanksgiving, I wound up at a local Wegman's. It was a loony bin and my husband picked up an upper respiratory infection as well. I will now sit back, turn on my iPad, and order away.

Thanks for letting me know Aldis is good. I’ve tried Publix. Publix uses Instacart and they are also good.

I like Instacart, it's a lot better than Shipd (or something like that) in that it has an explanation for the item and usually a box showing the contents of that food.

I have my groceries delivered every other week. Most of the time I order from Shop Rite (they have their own delivery driver) and I have been very satisfied with the quality of the items and their service. They do not increase the price of items when you order "shop rite from home". There is a delivery fee, but it it worth every cent to me for the great quality and service that I receive.

Due to recent illness, I have mobility issues now and trying to shlep multiple bags of items into my house would be too difficult. Their driver brings the packages in for me so that all I have to do is unload/put away.

Thanks for the recommendation about Aldis. One recently opened near me so I may try their delivery.

Interesting. While I prefer to select my own produce, it would be nice on occasion to have other items delivered! I haven't tried it yet but your post has made me think about it...will look into my local supermarket, plus Wegmans & Whole Foods ...both are around 1/2 hour away so I wonder how far they will make a delivery?

ETA: Just curious what those of you who use this service give for a tip? Do you tip a percentage of the order?

I discovered online grocery shopping when I got really sick for several weeks last winter. It was a lifesaver! All I had to do was send my husband to pick up the bags of groceries.

I usually don't mind going and doing it myself because I'm one of those shoppers who has to find the very best expiration date on everything.

I wish they had that service when I had babies though. I used to hate taking them out in public and putting them in those germy carts this time of year. Back in the day it was rare to even find those disinfectant wipes next to the carts, although I did always have my own on hand.

I've been using Wal-Mart's grocery pick-up service for several years and can no longer make myself go to a grocery store. They also deliver but the store is less than a mile so running up to pick them up is no chore. The kids who work there are so nice and helpful.

I'm with you OP. I do FreshDirect every Sunday. I would not dream of doing my routine shopping in an actual store with all the horrible people who shop there and bump me with their cart, block the produce I'm trying to get at and push up behind me when in line. I just sit in my jammies and wait for my Sunday morning delivery. And if even one tiny thing is wrong I can get a refund or replacement so easily. I only pop into the grocery store now for a last minute thing I forgot or for the odd thing FD doesn't carry. One bag is the max!

My SHIPT shopper is the best. Shops at Publix for me. I have never been disappointed with her choice!

SHIPT was a lifesaver when I was recovering from surgery.

I am impressed that people can get their groceries that way. I'm such a freak about being picky about food, especially for the fresh food items, that I could never imagine somebody else picking them out.

If I could, I probably would change it because I've actually never been the 'loves to shop' type and, in fact, the only store-shopping I do is the grocery store.

It's good to know that these services work well!

I do delivery too and I would be hard pressed if I ever had to do regular grocery shopping myself. Such a time saver.

I agree @Vivian, for me it is so much nicer sitting back with a hot cup of coffee and browsing the isles (pages)!!

I wanted some waffle fries for hubs and my dinner tonight so I jumped on Amazon Fresh and did a medium sized shop. Chose AF because you can choose your delivery window (2 hr blocks) for same day. I had my order in by 7:00 am and delivery was made at 9:55, the window I chose was between 10:00 and noon. Pretty nice! Then I did a nice sized order on Amazon Prime and it will be here by 9:00 tonight.

@haddon9, Amazon Fresh adds a 5.00 tip on the total and then you can go in and edit the tip upward if you want. I usually add a couple more bucks on because it is so worth my time. They say the delivery person gets the full amount but enhh, can I be sure! They keep the tip window a seperate submission to your visa/mastercard open for 24 hrs in case you feel generous once you see how efficient they are ha! If I catch the guy/gal when they come I will just give them a couple extra bucks cash.

@Suzeecat I check every expiration date too when I can, but I havent had a prob with Amazon or Walmart, the only other place I have ordered food. All good! Im really freaky about that!

I enjoy grocery shopping, but I have been using Walmart's delivery for household items that are difficult to schlepp, like cat food, cat litter, paper towels, toilet tissue, etc. If you spend $50, they have free next day delivery. You can't beat that.

I use Shipt as well to shop at Publix. I'm boring when it comes to food and basically get the same stuff every week (LOL) so its a no brainer for them to shop for me! And its easy if a substitution is warranted. I do have some favorite Shipt shoppers.

I'm on oxygen full-time and live up two flights of stairs (3rd floor condo) so this is a god-send for me! I just can't carry the groceries up the stairs anymore. I know its more expensive to use this service but I couldn't do it without them. So very thankful.

P.S. moving next month to a ground-level condo. Can't wait!! Doing this for myself and my 14 year old fur baby who is having difficulity navagating the stairs as well.

Isn’t it the greatest !?!?

i started using online grocery ordering/delivery after orthopedic surgery this year and it contributed greatly to my being able to heal at home and retain my independence.

Now better than ever - I still use order online because my order is already there and I just reorder (yes, I’m particular about certain items so when I really find something I like I continue using it).

Just makes my life so much simpler especially in the current holiday traffic and frustration.

I am so with you on this!

Most days I'm in the office until 6-6:30 pm and the last thing I want to do after is going to the store and then haul groceries up the stairs to my apartment, especially when it's hot and humid out.

Saturdays the grocery stores are so crowded that the checkout lines are long, even when they have all the stations open.

It's just so much easier to order from my desk and have the groceries arrive in the evening.

I’m sure no one here hates grocery shopping more than me! I handle the task better in warm weather, but once winter weather is here, I don’t leave the house unless I absolutely have to.

In October I started filling my pantry and freezer shelves, and will make my last shopping trip within the next 3 days. We should be good until late February, early March. My husband is out 2x a week; teacher daughters school is one mile from a Dollar General.

I discovered the convenience a few years ago when I had a cold that wouldn't go away. It sure was nice to not have to get dressed and drive somewhere.

I haven't used it since then, but lately I do notice, especially in my local Whole Foods, that it seems there are more personal shoppers pushing carts around than there are individual shoppers.

(One day I was kind of happy I got better cuts of salmon than the personal shopper who got a couple right after I did.)

@chickenbutt I'm with you. I'm happy for others that they have found a service that suits their lifestyle and I think this will be a treasure for those with disabilities and incapacitated. For me, I would never consider letting someone else pick out my produce and almost all of my groceries are fresh produce. I examine every piece and use my senses to determine if the quality is good enough for my family.

Fruit can be a challenge to find ripe and ready to eat. I just threw away a box of oranges from Sam's because they were bitter and the bunch of bananas went with them. Instead of turning ripe, they turned a weird shade of grey/black. Just a guess....maybe Sam's and Costco are freezing some of their fruit and then letting it defrost before selling which is changing the quality. I haven't experienced this at Trader Joe's, Sprouts, or Whole Foods. I am grateful that this is not most of the produce, but enough to be vigilant.

Having said that, I've always been determined to provide the best quality food possible. I'd love to have a fruit orchard and a large veggie garden just for that purpose. I would not want someone else to pick out my fruits and veggies for delivery, but I am happy for others that enjoy this option.
