I purchased a nice selection of quality sliced cheese from Costco. However, typical of Costco, it's a lot of cheese!

I tried searching on line to see if you can freeze cheese slices and I got conflicting information. Some stated that it's fine - no problems, others stated the cheese slices will crumble.

Have you ever tried to freeze cheese slices? If yes, what was the outcome - good or bad?

Thank you!

I find that freezing changes the texture of cheese. It tends to become rather crumbly. It's fine to use for cooking but you probably wouldn't want to use it on a nice cheese plate.

I do freeze shredded cheese at times, but slices and blocks typically fall apart and suffer from some flavor loss (honestly, the shreds sometimes do as well). If you happen to have a FoodSaver, it does a great job of vacuum sealing cheese slices so you can store them for a long time in the refrigerator. I recommend the sturdy bags rather than the "deli container" often touted in QVC presentations. Good luck...

I freeze slices and blocks of cheese all the time using foodsaver bags. They come out just fine. If I thaw them in the fridge for at least a day there is not much crumbling."

I would probably portion it out a bit and vacuum seal it. You can open up one packet at a time and not have to expose all of it to the air.

It can store in the refrigerator vacuum-sealed, very well.

A lot of times I purchase a 2lb package of extra sharp cheddar or monterey jack and I will make 4 8oz packets vacuum sealed and keep them in the refrigerator like that, so that I'm only getting into one of them at a time and the rest stays good for very long.

Really great question and I will be following your responses to gain knowledge for myself. I personally have never tried it but I’m not opposed it. Seems like I remember someone freezing shredded cheese and it turned out well.

Lots of folks I know freeze milk and sandwich bread but I’ve not done well trying this for myself.

Can’t wait to get more results and lots of luck with whatever you decide.

Yes I have done the slices due to my local store offering buy one get one for .01 cent.

I put wax paper in between each slice for better separation. But I really just use what as been in the freezer as more of a "melting" cheese for recipes not for a sandwich ect... Right now in my freezer is shredded cheese since the bag was so large. I would rather loose something from it being frozen than to having to toss it due to it going bad in the fridge. When you live alone the freezer is just part of dinner.

I don't think it is necessary to freeze cheese. It keeps well wrapped well in the fridge. I separate cheese into smaller packages and wrap it tight in plastic wrap, the put it in a vacuum bag or even a zip lock and never had any go bad.

I don't tend to get sliced cheese, but I would use a FoodSaver.

I buy blocks of cheese and they store very well in a Formaticum CHEESE Storage Bag. I have cheese in the fridge in these bags that is months old. These things are a GREAT invention.

I am not enamored with their other storage bags...have tried with bread and veggies, but no success.
