I would not touch the canned stuff with a ten foot pole but I love the homemade sauce. I follow the recipe on the back of the Ocean Spray Cranberry bag. I do the jelled version where I press and mash the cooked berries through a strainer. Delicious!

I was never a cranberry sauce fan----but a few years ago I made home made cranberry sauce with dried cherres in it and I am a believer now. The recipe was very simple and easy. You might google if you like to cook from fresh. Have never had a pre- made c/sauce that tasted good. And it was incredible on my turkey sammie too.

I use canned Ocean Spray whole berry sauce. put it in a small saucepan and add the zest of one orange, the juice of half the orange and about a half cup of chopped pecans.

simmer and stir over a low-medium heat until it begins to thicken, about 20 minutes.

then just cool in the fridge until time to serve.

it's easy, delicious and doesn't taste canned.

I've used the recipe on the Ocean Spray cranberries bag and it works fine. That was a tradition in DH's family.

The other day I read an article where they tested cranberry sauce you can buy. The winner for best sauce was Williams Sonoma New England Apple Cranberry Relish.

We have diabetics in the family, so I've been ordering Cranberry Sauce from Walden Farms online. It's no-sugar-added, and it tastes really good and fresh. They make new batches each fall in the month or so before Thanksgiving. I usually order 2 of them because we like it so much.

I love cranberry sauce and enjoy it all year long thanks to the amazing freeze-ability of cranberries. Here's my simple recipe:

Cranberry Sauce

2 C water
1 1/2 C sugar
2 12-oz pkgs cranberries (fresh or frozen)
1 cinnamon stick
Zest of one orange in 4-5 long strips

Bring water and sugar to a boil in a large saucepot over medium-high heat. Add cranberries, cinnamon stick, and zest, stirring to move zest under/within the berries. (Make a mental note of how many strips you added.) Return to a boil. Reduce heat to medium low and boil for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally. Carefully remove cinnamon stick and zest strips. Pour cranberry sauce into a bowl, cover, and let cool completely at room temperature; serve or refrigerate for a chilled version. Makes about 4 1/2 cups.

(Note: Neither the cinnamon nor orange flavor is strong—these items simply add a depth and brightness to the sauce. I've tried it without them and it just isn't the same.)

ALWAYS a hit and very easy to make.

Sunshine's Cranberry Sauce

1 regular bag of cranberries

1 cup water

1 cup sugar

1 container or bag of frozen raspberries in syrup (if you use fresh raspberries or regular frozen raspberries without syrup add an additional 1/2 cup of sugar)

Juice of one orange or tangerine (about ½ cup)

2 large granny smith apples, peeled and diced

Splash of grand marnier, if desired

Place water, sugar, and cranberries in a pot. Place on medium high heat and bring to a boil, stirring frequently. Once the desired thickness is reached, allow to cool. Add remaining ingredients and combine until well mixed. Refrigerate for at least two hours. This easily doubles or triples. You can also add a little bit of the orange zest if you like.

This also tastes delicious over vanilla ice crea

We love cranberry sauce. Mine has very little sugar, mandarin oranges, some of the juice, pecans, and some ground ginger, and I make it in the microwave the day before. Everyone loves it.

It's rich, but it's supposed to be more of a relish, not a side dish. DH, of course, loves to add it to leftover turkey sandwiches. And when I inevitably make that "Thanksgiving Dinner" casserole, I add cranberry sauce, too.
