Chocolate cake in a jar.

I want to give my granddaughter a chocolate cake...I am thinking of putting it in a wide mouth jar, including the frosting.

I can see this as looking not very pretty!! and if will not be presentable I will rethink my idea. Has anyone tried this method and if so any tips or should I move on and think of another idea?

My thought is to use something round a tad smaller than the jar to cut the cake into circles, and then layer cake, frosting, cake frosting, etc.

I could do a red cake, that would look prettier -probably but still if anyone has tips/ideas I'd appreciate it.

I'm assuming you are talking about one of those half or 1 cup wide mouth jars and that your grand daughter is old enough to handle a glass jar without dropping it. Sounds like a cute idea.

Sounds like a cute idea .. when I do a Trufle .. the cake and such..

( whipped cream ) just get layered in the Truffle dish ...

@blackhole99 Yes, she is a teenager and she is the only one that likes chocolate, so I am trying to think of a cute way to giver her cake but not the entire thing...it will not get eaten.

Been there, done this before for an office function years ago; it was a big hit.

I baked the cake on a 11x14 sheet pan about 15 min. After it cooled, I cut the cake into small squares and layered it in a wide mouth pint jar with filling of beaten cream cheese and confectionary sugar, added to cheesecake flavor pudding.

@RedTop Good idea... I usually do a layer cake but would be easier to use my bigger sheet pan.

@Mom2Dogs How about a Black Forest style cake with the cherries between the layers in the jar and whipped cream and a cherry on top?

Whatever you choose, sounds like a very creative idea and a unique presentation for your grandaughter's special day.

there was a company on Shark Tank that makes these jars. you can order them for everyday or special occasions. i have sent them to my adult daughter for her birthday before........she LOVED them. 2 for 20 bucks. she loved the idea and the yummy treat
