Obvious hint everyone probably already knows

I'm putting this up after reading the thread about where one puts the dish drainer. I've complained for years how the dishwasher doesn't dry the dishes, particularly plastic, like Lock n Lock. Well, DH figured this one out. Open the door immediately when the cycle ends and pull out both racks. Since everything is still hot, stuff air dries quickly.

Don't you have a dry selection on your washer? I ran a big load last night and when done - opened the door to let dishes cool down. My 7 or 8 Lock n Lock bowls were absolutely bone dry. Not a drip nor drop on anything.

My dishes always come out of the dishwasher dry. Never had an issue.

I have done this for years. Always stop the dishwasher after the final rinse. I do/did it to conserve energy.

My new dishwasher has a power dry setting. It does great on everything except plastic containers. When I was shopping for the dishwasher, I complained about poor drying. The salesman at Lowe's gave me that tip. He gave some sciency explanation about why it happens. Now I do it any time there are plastics in the load and it works like a charm.

Be grateful you have a dishwasher. I have to wash everything by hand never had a dishwasher & apartment has no room for one. No clothes dryer either.

I do this, too. I have a Bosch dishwasher and it does not have a dry cycle. It heats up, but not a dry cycle...I hate that about it. I run the dishwater after dinner dishes are in then when it is done, I open the door, pull out both baskets a little and leave it that way until morning to unload. It works, but I'd rather have a true dry cycle. I would not buy Bosch again because of it.

I'll give that a try!

My DW does fine except sometimes excess water accumulates on the bottoms of crockery turned upside down - if I catch it right, I open the machine and shake the racks or dump the excess out while it's in the dry cycle. That works too.

Hosts on QVC talking about get one for each bathroom, one for each car. I have 1 of each, car and bathroom.

That seems like a good idea if your dishwasher isn't drying them properly.

My old (not sure how old, as we bought house with it in there many years ago) Kenmore dries just fine using the dry cycle, but if I have some L&L vessels that are flatly upside down there will be a little water there so, shortly after it's done, I try to remember to take a look and move them to where they are at an angle and the water will be gone pretty quickly.

I've been opening the door for a long time. My mom was frugal and she'd always do that and tell me it saves on the electric bill...she's right.

Another thing about plastic in the dishwasher is that it always flips over and gets filled up with water. So when you go to get the plastic stuff out, it full of water! I knew there had to be a better way....some kind of fix for this annoying situations. This is what I found and currently using:

Boon Span Dishwasher Net (from Amazon, where else)

This is a really stretchy silicone device that you hook on to the dishwasher racks, on top of things that otherwise get tossed around. It secures them in place so plastic stuff won't flip up side down. Saves me from searching for plastic lids, too.

THANK you for taking the time to share that tip! I had never heard it before.

My brand new dishwasher has a power dry cycle...still NOT happy w/ how wet everything can be no matter how long I wait after the cycle is done (thinking it is still hot in there)

I am going to give it a try!

Only problem is...when the door is down, The Puggle thinks that is an invitation to stand on it and lick the dishes! LOL Hopefully with the racks out, she won't be able to!

@CLHS68 I have a dishwasher but rarely us it...several women I know (empty nesters) don't use their either. I do run it every month just so it does not get a 'smell'. I use if for a drainer after I hand wash the dishes.

Hmm,, I'll have to try this. I live in an apartment so I'm sure the dishwasher here isn't a high dollar dishwasher. I have no complaints about how well the machine washes the dishes - it does quite a nice job of that. However, it doesn't dry the dishes worth squat. I've been leaving the dishes in the dishwasher for at least an hour, usually two, after the dishwasher has finished thinking that doing this would be the best way to ensure that the dishes dried. However, the air along with the hot dishes may do the trick. If this works, I'll be eternally grateful to your DH.
