Do You Own These..........

I have been looking at these 2 items, and do any of you own them.....and if so.......how do you like them.......... They have shown different ideas for each, that I think that I would like.........Opinions..........

I don't have any of the newer configurations, but I did buy some of the original Technique brand silicone baking mats (flat, shiny silicone with silicone-coated metal around the perimeter for stability).

As for those - YIKES! What a nightmare. They smoked and smoked and smoked at just medium oven heat for a few minutes. Smoke detectors went off. I tried them twice and never put them in the oven again.

I do like silicone and use many silicone utensils, have other silicone bakeware, and it's great. But these must have been some poor quality silicone. I now only use them for non-baking purposes.

Generally, however, I've found Technique to be a pretty good brand. But all the items I have are at least several years old.

I have the muffin cups which I use all the time! It came with a mat. I only use a 350 degree oven. No hotter!

I had the older set of baking mats; used them once and tossed them; the entire kitchen filled with smoke..similar experience as chicken.....it was too late to return them

If you are looking for a good silicone baking mat get Silpat. They are sold at Bed Bath and Beyond and many other cooking stores.

I owned the older silicone bake ware they were awful, I used once and out the door.

All of my baking sheets are non stick, no spray, no need for Silpat..........but what I am asking for, and should have made much more clear, is the raising of food off of them, and grease wicking down, or baking cheese, for say a part of a salad or such, or bacon, raised out of the grease, or turning them over, and making chocolate pyramids, as they have shown, and such uses......not for a non stick for my baking sheets, or rather jelly roll pans.......

Silpats rock.

I use them inside my Chicago Metallic baking sheets. I got mine at Amazon.

I don't have either of them. Groupon has the large size red one for $7.99. You can search non-stick healthy cooking mat to find it.

My flat ones work good, but they are a pain to clean. I can't imagine cleaning those. They are like static cling for everything. I wash them before and after using. I use them all the time, but I'd never buy the 'rubbery' kind again.

I have 2 sets of the same ones chickenbutt referred to in her post, and use them all the time. I have never had an issue with them. I bake cookies on them, as well as biscuits, and french fries. I do not use them to cook anything greasy. The Blue Jean Chef used to advertise these baking mats by making loaded nachos on them, but I do not use them for anything where fat and grease will get hot enough to possibly blister the silicone. When I make no bake cookies or peanut butter chews, I drop them on the silicone mats to cool. I love the silicone mats and think they are one of the best items I've ordered from QVC.

I have some of the first silicone mats qvc first offered. I believe they are the ones chickenbutt mentions. I have never had any problems at all. I only use them for cookies and there is never a burned bottom and never difficult to remove the cookie from the sheet. I would not use them for anything else but cookies. Never used them for anything else.
