I wonder how they compare to Tastykake pies. Tastykake are baked, not frozen, and 4 oz each, not 4.5, and cost $1.79 each (when not on sale). Mamie's cost about $5.00 each.

You can make your own by buying pillsbury pie crust

using a small saucer , upside down, lay on top of the pie crust and press

down, you can get 4 from a single crust

get whatever pie filling you want. Peach, apple, strawberry, etc. Put 2 or 3 tablespoons of filling on the crust , fold over the crust and crimp edges.

filling will ooze out, but, you'll learn how to be neater.

fry in skillet on low heat in butter (butter smokes fast and burns) flip over brown on both sides. Sprinkle with plain sugar or cinnamon if using apple filling.

I put mine in air fryer and baste with a spray fake butter till golden, flip, baste and cook on the other side.Seems like I do 5-6 minutes a side. Meridith, the blue jean chef, has the recipe in her air fryer book.

we called them 'fried pies' up in Ind. Mother in law taught me she made her own crust. LOL

@SharkE I agree with you. You could also use refrigerated biscuit or homemade biscuit dough or refrigerated croissant dough or puff pastry or the pie dough. You could do a test of several of these with different fillings and/or some powdered sugar and water icing if you like the extra glaze. They would all be tasty. You could also roll the "fried pie" in cinnamon and sugar before baking/air frying. You could deep fry them, but why when there are so many easier ways to cook them. You could also make your own pie filling by cooking down some fruit with a bit of water/sugar, then let it chill to thicken and spoon into the pies. There are little pie press and pie maker options on Amazon.

This one is a large 3.75" stainless steel press.

These three sized plastic ones are $6.60 add on to your order.

This one is much larger and $7.71. It would make great meat pies like days of old.

Just for the holidays.

You could also do the plate trick and stuff it with more meat filling than these molds will hold like how old meat hand pies were made like with a filling of root veggies and meat or just extra cottage/Sheppard's pie filling. They would do for breakfast on the road as well stuffed with a bit of cooked egg, cheese and meat/none of your choice. Or you could just eat a meat pie for breakfast. I had leftover BBQ pulled pork stuff baked potato. YUMMY there. Oooooo stuff a pastry with BBQ pulled pork! So many ideas that are quick when using a pre-made pastry.

Those do look good. You air fried them right? or baked? You could do either especially if you have a countertop convection oven where you could do a larger batch of air fried.
