Keorig Coffees

My daughter and son-in-law have one of those, and I love coffee, but I cannot like those pods. I've tried several, my coffee in my Bunn maker is so much better! Anyone else here that does not like those pods?

Is it just me?

@gloriajean ..... me, me, me .... I tried most of them .... coffee, tea, hot chocolate etc,. & I don’t like any of them ..... they are so weak & “watery” tasting to me .... I rather use my electric percolator 😃

When I was still using my Keurig I didn't use the pre-filled ones. I bought, think at Bed, Bath & Beyond a set of the ones you fill yourself with your own coffee. You spoon the coffee in, snap down the lid and voila. They're probably sold at Walmart & Target and such as well. Oh and they aren't disposable, you just wash and re-use.

I love mine. But I have the personal size - have to add water every time. I have found that the coffee was too strong so I use more water than they recommend. My favorite is the Donut Shop brand. Hubby and I drink more tea than coffee so the Keurig is perfect for us rather than making a whole pot.

@gloriajean - I love my Bunn coffee maker - it makes the best cup of coffee. When my Keurig died, I purchased the Bunn single serve coffee maker - I can use k-cups or use my own coffee.

The only k-cups I use are the Kirkland (Costco brand) Bold - it makes a decent cup of coffee compared to other brands/varieties I have tried.

I make coffee and then pour it into a glass lined vacuum carafe and it keeps it hot all day. (Steel lined just doesn’t work as well.)

Just remember to pour hot water into the carafe first and let it sit while the coffee is being made. Then you have coffee on demand all day. Your coffee, cheap, and ready made. I even throw in the Splenda. The Keurig coffee just lacks that full bodied brewed taste. Ugh.

Count me as one who is not on the Keurig band wagon. Haven't had one yet that tastes as good as my freshly ground, fresh brewed coffee. They all taste like just what they are...instant coffee. Yuck!

If you want stronger coffee, you might want to try the Peets brand pods. I bought a package and had to throw it away - it was way too strong for me....

Those cups are awfully expensive too. Currently, Green Mountain French Vanilla, artificially flavored, is available on Q for $33.00 "and change" per pound, before adding in shipping and tax.

Considering what the Keruig brewers cost, they should be able to make $6.00/lb. coffee taste like $33.00/lb. coffee.

When you have a brand that is too strong you can brew a larger serving with the same kcup. For example if the 8 or 10 ounce is too strong, just brew a 6 ounce or 8 ounce, then lift handle and rebrew with the SAME kcup another 6 ounce or even an 8 ounce with the same kcup. You will have a larger serving size, 12 ounce, 14 ounce, or 16 ounce, but the brew strength may be just right for you then!

I didn't know about this. If I find these empty ones I can put my own coffee in, I wonder how much for a cup? I make a whole pot in my 10 cup Bunn, 3 scoops and that is just right. I have only found one I liked, mocha coffee, and couldn't find that again. I'm there a lot being we take care of my little 2 year old grandgirls almost 5 days a week.

@gloriajean I have a Keurig and find that I don't use the pods that much except for tea and then I use less water for a stronger brew. I use the additional tool/k-cup resuable filter that allows you to add your own ground coffee and find I like this much better than using their pods and saves money.

@gloriajean My keurig is my back up to my old school coffe maker. I use brown filters, because htey aren't bleached. The pods aren't biodegradable, and the plastic ruins the taste. Even the resuable ones don't taste as good, and I can't really control what I'm drinking re; caffeine content etc. I just don't like it as much.

I add more water when I brew mine it mellows the taste alot. Experimenting is you best bet until you get it the way you like it Always watch what strenth is on the box, that is where you start.

I love my Keurig.I can’t live without it!! I mainly use K Cups but sometimes use my own coffee in the “my K Cup”. I buy disposable filter liners that fit into it so there is no cleanup. I just throw the liner out. Easy peasy. You can get them at Bed Bath & Beyond.

@gloriajean...dh and I drink a lot of coffee. We tried the keurig but the pods are just to expensive if you drink a lot of coffee. We did purchase the filter that lets you add your own coffee, but found it to be messy and to much work in my opinion...we went back to breweing our coffee.

I have noticed there have not been a lot of presentations of the Keurig this year on QVC, maybe they lost their appeal???

Thank you for all the responses on this. If I get the empty pods how much coffee do you put in one for one cup? 1 teaspoon?

We would never get one, but being my daughter has one and we are there alot, taking care of the twins, and helping her with some housework, I would like coffee I can enjoy. Our bunn maker is the best for us!

I love my Keurig, had it for almost 6 years now. I'm afriad to buy a new one what with the bad reviews. So I keep using this one. I also have a drip 5 cup-er. But since the basket is so small, I can't make it strong or grounds run all over. But what I get from the Keurig is adequate.

I've been using Farberware Electric Percolator for many years. Now - Farberwre and several other brands break after a few months. Recently, I purchased a Cuisinart Electric Percolator from Walmart. I like perc'd coffee.
