Kitchen dishcloths

I crochet dishcloths. It costs me about a dollar in yarn and 1 hour to make one. What should I charge for each one. A lady wants 6. 😊 ❤ 😊

If they actually work with water, I'm your second customer. I just bought a pack of four regular for about $8.00 from At Home and they are worthless.

Around me, regular dishcloths go for about $2-$5 each. Something handmade I would double and maybe do a discount for multiples.

Depending on the size I would charge $2.50-$3.50 each. I would give a discount for a set of 6 for $12.00.

Sad but you will never get back what you have in them material and time wise. I guess the answer is what the market will support.

@Barbarainnc These are way better than any thin ones bought in stores so they should be more expensive. I have seen them at craft shows for $4 through $8 each but since she wants $6 I would give a slightly cheaper price than what you would charge for 1.

what size are these? size of a terry kitchen towel? if yes, i would charge $5.each or 6 for $25

The materials don't cost much but what price for your labor? Minimum wage plus yarn would be around $10 per item. Don't price yourself too !ow.

Depends on where you live and where you are selling them. Around here, in the Midwest, at a craft fair, they usually sell for about $3.50 - $4.50.

But do they look nice and work well? Do they have an edging on them or just a square?

Don't count on making a living doing this - you will never get your labor out of them! It's nice to get some extra money from them though and I enjoy doing things like that.

So at $2.00 each you're saying her time is worth only $1 per hour. And at that there is no profit. She can't charge enough to make it worth her while to sell these.

My cousin makes these and brings me a few every time she visits. Frankly, I don't really like them as dishcloths, but instead, I use them under my cutting boards to keep them from slipping. I also use them on the table so I can place a hot dish without harming the surface.

Perhaps yours are more conducive to washing dishes, but my cousin's really are not.

I don't see how you can make money for the amount you would have to ask for them.

that's 6 hours of your work..... minimum wage x 6 ?

if you belong to Ravelry you might get help there.

as a knitter I would be careful on this one, don't undervalue your work

Add the cost of materials and your labor.What is your time worth?Then compare with other similar items.

I'm chuckling what @Laura14 posted as I've tried every brand including big $$$ Williams Sonoma towels so I want to be your 3rd customer...if they really dry & aren't sopping wet after drying a few things -- to me it's priceless!!!

@Laura14: The only ones I found really work are this pack of "tea towels" or "flour sack" style my gf bought me from WM she swore by them & they were cheap! I can't find them anymore ...of course☹️

I only use terrycloth dish towels. Nothing else absorbs.

@Citrine1& @proudlyfromNJ, I made that mistake recently. Kitchen towels are the ones for drying dishes (and wiping your hands).

I always buy mine at WS. I went there a few weeks ago to replenish mine but bought dish clothes by accident. I washed them before realizing my mistake, so I couldn't return them.

They are too small for drying dishes, so I use them for rags because I prefer a brush or one of those netted thingies to rinse or clean my dishes.

That said, I hope that the OP will get a fair price.
