Here is an article that I just read.....So sad.......... What restaurant(s) do you miss.........I personally miss Steak and Ale......as I could get prime rib when I wanted it....not just on select days at an "out" restaurant........ I used to be a big fan of Bennigans as well......

Steak and Ale was my favorite. My brother would always take me there for my birthday! We loved Shakey's pizza when we were growing up.

Wow, a walk down Memory Lane! Bennigan's was where my DH and I ate our first meal after getting married in 1983. We stopped at the one in Birmingham, Al. on our way to Gatlinburg, TN. I am sorry to see that it is one that has gone away.

Where I used to go in Atlanta, Steak and Ale, and Bennigan's were side by side, so it was just a choice as to what I wanted that night.............

Steak and Ale was the first steak house restaurant I remember going to in a big city. There was also a really good restaurant in Oklahoma City that served crepes but I cannot remember the name of it. Think it was part of a chain, but is no longer open. Anyone remember what this is?

Editing this as I think I just remembered it. Believe it was The Magic Pan. Anybody remember this?

We went Ponderosa every once and a while growing up. I was excited that Bennigans moved here a couple years ago. We used to frequent one every time we went to Florida and liked it alot. I remember pulling up the menu online and there wasn't anything on it that was appealing, so I never went. They closed recently. Also O'charlies closed here. When I lived in Knoxville, I went there often. When it opened here six years ago, I was excited. Went a half dozen times and was always disappointed in the food.

I miss Bennigan's too. I loved their Monte Cristo sandwich and the broccoli bites and the potato soup they had. I liked Steak and Ale but the one close to me was always kind of dirty, so wasn't crazy about that.

They just closed the Sonic down the street. There are more but this one was close and busy. Thank goodness I just learned how to make cherry limeades at home.

Red Coach Grille, Victoria Station, Howard Johnson's. Might just be gone from this state, but nothing comparable has opened since.

Steak and Ale had the best salad bar ever with the coldest of cold pewter salad plates. They also had a prime rib TDF.

I grew up in Orange County. Was the Magic Pan in Irvine or Costa Mesa (south coast plaza) ?

There was a restaurant in the PAN AM building in NYC called ""Charlie Brown's Ale And Chop House"". It's long gone. But my now significant other and I ate there several times when we were dating. Food was excellent. Atmosphere was inviting. Great place for a dinner date.

I remember Victoria Station Restaurant. They had railroad cars hooked together to form the restaurant. I remember at the entrance there was a case with all of their beef hanging for aging.

I vaguely remember Hot Shoppe Restaurants in the south. I think they were a version of Howard Johnson Restaurants.

Funny. Steak & Ale was our go to restaurant for first time visitors. We also dined there by ourselves a lot. They had a steak dinner deal for around $11 that included their soup/salad bar, soft drinks, and dessert. The store here has been empty since closing and honestly will likely be demolished as it needed a lot of work. Another place we miss here is Smokey Bones. It was another victim of Darden mismanagement. There are still a lot of places to eat out down here including many new ones opening all the time.

I agree with Southern. Steak and Ale were wonderful. My late husband often hosted family and friends on my birthday for wonderful celebrations.

Many Sunday's we'd pick up my Mother and take her for dinner at the Steak and Ale. The food was wonderful and the atmosphere was great.

Oh, how I loved me some fried clams from Ho Jo's. lol When I was pregnant I had to go to the hospital every week for non stress tests and I would stop at Ho Jo's on the way home. Steak and Ale was good, too. My son was about 8 when he ordered the escargo. I had one and my DH pretended to have one! There was an Italian family restaurant that had the best pizza--the crust was TDF.

Steak & Ale was a huge favorite here too. I agree, that salad bar was excellent. Everything was fresh and ice cold.

This is the second thing I've read about steak in the last 5 minutes.

I need a steak now. LOL
