Why would anyone not interested in a item get riled up about a shipping issue?

And @Pook is right: Unless it's a very recent order, no one can expect a refund of the shipping cost. For example, I ordered items at Talbots and paid shipping. Then four days later, they were offering free shipping. I called and easily received a refund for the shipping cost.

Advance orders can always be cancelled, so if customers who pre-ordered David's book really wanted to get a better price or free shipping (which has been offered for kitchen-related items at least three times since the book debuted), they could cancel their initial order and place a new one as needed. The book definitely has never been sold out—David and his crew push it at every opportunity when he's on the air.

Alternately, a simple call to customer service or a post in the Customer Care forum could enable a customer to get a credit for the shipping cost; the latter has actually been taking place quite nicely over the past couple of days for many who pre-ordered the book.

In short, there's simply nothing to complain about here. As others have noted, sales and deals come and go, and it's unlikely that everyone is going to get the best price possible on every item every time. It's a bonus that QVC customer service is great about helping with price matching and giving shoppers a good experience with their orders. No process is perfect, of course, but the representatives do the best they can.

Actually, there is another thread about this in Q Talk. I had ordered David's book when it was first presented in August, where there was s&h charged. So, yesterday, seeing it without the shipping, I did call CS and ask to cancel and reorder, but since the order was placed (and not shipped or delivered since the books aren't even out yet), was told that they could not change a 3 month old order - even though it was an advance order.

MANY people ordered the book when it was first presented for pre-sale. One of the wonderful CS reps online with us here DID give me and the others who posted on that thread a $3.50 shipping credit. The point was more of the principle than the actual money. They encouraged people to buy the book early and then gave a better offer - again, before it was shipped. I totally understand when you buy and receive something and then it goes on sale and not getting the sale price. But, the fact is that we do not have the book since it hasn't shipped and it was a slap to those of us who ordered it in advance.

While the wonderful Beth did make it right, the fact that two other CS reps I spoke with yesterday said they could not change anything that was more than 1 month old - (again, even though the book hadn't shipped yet) were not very helpful.

So out of curiousity, I looked up my order placed in the early days of availability. My invoice says $19.95, shipping FREE, and tax of $1.41, and a total of $24.86!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (And it notes on the invoice that the word FREE is in red! Yet they clearly included shipping charges in the total.)

The C/S rep I just spoke with said I have to wait until the order is received before the adjustment can be made, since it's "in process" and can't be modified at this point in time.

Interesting. Perhaps folks should scrutinize their invoices to be sure you're not being charged shipping the way I was. Even though it says "FREE".

@Krimpette, yes, the order shows it as free and in red. That's what I saw yesterday, too. Then I looked above the order status and you will see your original order, that included the $3.50 or whatever shipping in black. The free shipping in red reflects what the item is today and not what it was when you ordered it. I read on a different thread that there was a lot of confusion with yet another glitch in the QVC system. Just be sure to follow up after the book is shipped and make sure they do give you the credit.

For example, I ordered items at Talbots and paid shipping. Then four days later, they were offering free shipping. I called and easily received a refund for the shipping cost.

You new here?

@hopi, the problem is we TRIED to cancel the order and reoreder, but they claim it was in process (even though they don't have the books), so they couldn't make any changes to the order. That is why people asked for a credit and were also told they couldn't make any changes to the order.

I bought one of David's cookbooks at my library's used book sale. I paid a dollar for it. I read through the book and didn't see many interesting recipes. A lot of them looked very high calorie and fattening. I donated it.
