Do you feel it's necessary, or frivolous?

Do you keep different things in each of them?

I'm working on my case - DH doesn't think we need one.

I do not have two, but really, really want another and I live by myself. There are more times than not, that it would be a big help even just for myself. I cook several different things during the week for my suppers and lunches to bring to work, and by the times I get some containers in the fridge and freezer, I could still use a little more room. It would also be awesome for when I have overnite company.

I say you need another one! Ha!

We only have one b/c we replaced the one in our kitchen and kept the old one in the garage. It is handy for storing beverages and at Christmas when we have extra food (since all the family comes to my house). I think we could live without it if something happened to it and wouldn't bother getting another.

I have another smaller refrigerator out in the garage. As our family has grown we have out grown our refrigerator in the kitchen and where it is located we can't fit a bigger one. I put all the bigger items in it .Gallons of milk, soda's, bottle water, not to mention Thanksgiving pies, the turkey. I love it.

We have two; we kept mom’s when we moved into the family home after she died. We put ours in the garage and mainly use it for water, Gatorade, other beverages, etc. The ice maker not even hooked up and hardly anything in the freezer.

After it dies we won’t have a second one.

i not only have my refrigerator/freezer in my kitchen, i have an extra refigerator/freezer AND a freezer in my garage. i love keeping my inside refrigerator neat and clean. having the backup outside for leftovers, multiples, sodas/water/beer is quite handy, especially during the holidays and if you entertain. believe me, they all get used! for me, it is necessary.

We have two and we need two.

The refrigerator in the garage has mostly soda, juices, beer, wine and fruit. We have been going to the New York finger lakes and buying wine, cheese and cider from all different places. And some of the ciders have to be refrigerated. So does beer once refrigerated it has to stay refrigerated.

So I am glad to have the second refrigerator. It also comes in handy during the holidays. We have my brothers staying at our house for a number of days and so there is lots of food to prepare.

I didn't know how badly I needed two until we got a new french door fridge a few years ago and put the old one in the garage. I use it for extra beverages that I want to keep cold, large bags of lemons and other produce that we get at Costco and lots of other things. The freezer in that fridge is handy to have also because I like to freeze baked goods and I can also use it for frozen things that don't really need to be handy in the kitchen.

I also have a medium size chest freezer in the garage. We are big on buying meat in quantity when it's on sale and my DH loves all the frozen snack foods that come in big boxes at Costco.

Having extra fridge and freezer space is a luxury that makes life a lot easier.

He's probably not the one who has to look for things in a crowded fridge and rearrange everything to fit is he? LOL!

I have a Sub Zero unit in my kitchen but I also have a kitchenette in my family room. We have an older home and it's big. I have another small freezer and a another small refrigerator. I use both for beverages and snacks for tv watching or family get togethers. I actually purchased them for the exta "stuff" room that you need for the holidays. I find that I use all of them daily. It's a great way to stock up on items, etc. when the stores are having sales.

No, of course not...... we eat all our meals at home, with very few exceptions. I do a tremendous amount of cooking and baking. I'm panicking over the upcoming holidays because I have no room for anything extra, like thawing a turkey or baking pies ahead of time. It's my fault for making everything look magical all these years. He doesn't see those difficulties.

Of course I could buy it on my own without "permission", but that's just never been the way we roll.

We have one in our garage and a very small one in our gameroom which just holds beverages. My kitchen frig has a bottom freezer which I hate. It just doesn't hold much so I rely on the one in the garage to hold most items. It really comes in handy at Christmastime because I can freeze my baked goods that I make. When my kids were little, we did not have a second refrigerator. Don't know how I did it with just one.

Well, I don't think it's frivolous as long as you don't store and then not use the items in them. I am going to admit it now..I have a refrigerator in my home and in the garage there is a small freezer and an older refrigerator I asked the hubby to get rid of and he never did. The freezer is for bulk meats and the other fridge is for the hubby and his cans of stuff...I manage to squeeze some of my items in that one too.

@house_cat Where you live in Southern California you can't even use the old New England/Northeast trick to set things outside or on a back porch temporarily to keep things cold, if the temperature dips enough over the fall and winter holidays.

My mom used to fill up an ice chest too, to keep the beer, cider, wine, and soda cold to free up fridge space--but again, that's just short term.

My advice is pick a couple out by doing a comparison of price on the model you like, see what the energy rating is and when you price it out and demonstrate how convenient it would be maybe dear husband will see it your way.

Fingers crossed for you . . . and nice that you do want your husband's concurrence.

I'm not as patient or pleasant as you, I'd have already purchased one.

Totally agree about the "permission" thing - we always come to agreement about large purchases. But an "extra" fridge doesn't have to be a high end model. Can you appeal to his desire to make your life just that little bit easier? Or how happy, happy it would make you? That usually does it for me.

We do have two fridges and two freezers, one of each in the kitchen and one of each in the mud room.

The bottom freezer of the kitchen is a joke, so a full freezer in the mud room allows me to take advantage of fresh produce in bulk when in season, blueberries, strawberries, veggies. It also means we can make huge batches of homemade spaghetti, French bread, etc. and freeze them, and purchase items in bulk when on sale. All cost saving.

The extra fridge means room for party food, storage for big jugs of juice, malt beverages for DH, and any cosmeceuticals I just might have bought at a very good price.

Our old one is in the garage. Very small. I use it for pop and beer only. But I do use the freezer out there.
