I'm finally trying to cook something with the IP, and right now, it's pressure cooking something for 35 minutes. What I need to know is this--while it's in the process of cooking, can I add minutes to my original cooking time? If anyone's out there right now, I'd really appreciate you getting back to me. Thanks!!

What are you in the process of cooking? If you don't think 35 min. are enough, I would try cancelling it out and reprogramming it... although I've never tried it on mine, I think it could work... If I don't think I've put in enough time, I always wait til it turns off, then I reprogram in more time..

Thanks so much for responding. I'm cooking a half pork loin (thought there was only one piece of meat in the package, but turns out there were two pieces) which weighs 2.6 pounds, along with potatoes & carrots. Used the meat button, which set it for 35 minutes. After started, I got to wondering if I should cook just a little longer. Right after I posted this, I did a little research and found out how to change it. I'm now set it so the total time will be 40 minutes. Think that will be long enough, hope so.

I've checked and checked about the length of time and have come across all different answers. Some people just cook for 20 mins, some 25, 30, and even 50. The chart that comes with the IP doesn't have pork loin on it, but when I checked online, there was a chart that did have it and listed 20 mins/pound. I also tried calling IP, and one person there said I should instead adjust my time according to how thick the pieces are, not by the weight. I'm so confused!!!! Surely 40 minutes will do.

They are labeled as just pork loin--that's also how they were advertised in the sales ad. I didn't even know they were two different things until I looked it up. Nevertheless, I think I should be OK. If anything, the meat will probably be overcooked. Oh well, better than under. Thanks for answering.

That should be plenty of time for pork loin. That's the time I usually use (unless I want it completely falling apart for sandwiches...then I'll add another 5 min. )and it comes out great... that sounds really good... I guess I'll have to buy one...

Have you just started using your IP? ... I've had mine for over 3 years and I use it all the time... I love it... I love mine for making yogurt .... I usually use the manual setting instead of the presets for pressure cooking meat, etc... .It's fun to play with certain recipes... After awhile, you can kind of figure out how much time is needed for certain meats, etc....I would suggest you write you out a cheat sheet for different meats, etc....then tape it inside your cupboard door and look at it when needed...just an idea that helped me at first....and Don't be afraid of your new IP..... Have Fun!!

Hope everything turns out well and have a great evening!

@ptagirl--Thanks for the encouragement & the great idea of a cheat sheet. This was my first time using it. I've had it for about a month and have only done the water test with it. I've been nervous about cooking in it (figured I'd mess things up), but finally took the plunge last night. I did somewhat mess up when I first seared the meat. Think maybe I didn't have enough oil to keep the meat from leaving a few burn areas on the bottom. I've got a LOT of learning to do.

IP with a yogurt setting.... but I just looked on-line and you can make it in your 6-function pot.... just Google it (making yogurt in IP without yogurt setting) and it will tell you exactly what to do... I don't heat the milk ( 1 gallon of 2 or 4 %) in my IP, but in a stainless steel 6qt. covered stockpot on the stove to 180 degrees and hold it at that temp for 10 min... turn it off, take it off burner, uncover and let the temp. come down to 110, remove the skin on top, and then stir in 1/2 c. plain yogurt , pour the milk into the IP stainless pan, cover with plain lid, set yogurt setting.... takes 8 hrs.... then I strain it in an almond milk bag while sitting in a collander/pan in refrigerator..... makes about 2 qt. yogurt... you can strain it as long as you want for a thicker greek style, or you don't have to strain it at all for a thinner-type...You do have to bring the milk up to that high of a temp. to break down the protein, otherwise it can become slimy (but will still taste ok, but not a very good texture to enjoy IMO)...

I really like homemade yogurt and it's much less expensive making your own...
