Poll: Presenting Non-Kitchen TSVs on ITKWD

There have been many complaints around the forum for at least two years about all the non-kitchen-related TSVs that are presented during In the Kitchen with David (ITKWD), particularly when the presentations are long, because the TSV is *always* presented for a full hour following ITKWD. I thought I'd post a poll to gather some feedback that we could perhaps have the moderators share with anyone who may have influence over programming to demonstrate how much this practice impacts viewers/buyers.

So here's the poll question:

If you were watching ITKWD on 10/14, what did you do when the Amazon Fire presentation started?

A. I continued to watch ITKWD.

B. I began watching/doing something else but returned to watch more ITKWD later.

C. I began watching/doing something else and never returned to watch the rest of ITKWD.

I'll kick things off with my answer: B. I did come back to the show later, but I had started baking cookies in the meantime, so for the last part of the show, I was honestly paying far more attention to my oven than the TV. ITKWD absolutely lost my interest once it brought in a non-kitchen item, and there was more than an hour of its three hours left at that point. Overall, only 13 items—including the TSV—were presented during the show.

it doesnt bother me one iota.....especially with todays TSV. i thought it was totally appropriate for ITKWD.

D. Did not watch, nothing interesting to buy today, can catch it later on Demand if I want to see a product.Not interestedn in a Amazon Fire for 1 hour presentation.

C for me. All I could think is that if the tsv had been a mattress, they probably would have found a way to sell it by saying "every kitchen needs a mattress in the middle of the floor." I thought the fire tablet was a real stretch to sell during ITKWD

B would be the closet. Definately tuned out when the Fire came on because I knew it would be on again. It meant there were less kitchen items to see.

It’s C For me !!!!! ... I hate when they “push” a non kitchen item during the ITKWD show!!!!! .... who wants to see a mattress or a vacuum being sold during a kitchen show? ..... I change the channel or turn the TV off ....... every time you turn around they are presenting the TSV !!!! enough is enough already!!!!!

I'd vote A 12,782 times but that would ruin the poll!

There are lots of things presented that I have zero interest in - but QVC is not my private channel so I don't know how to eliminate them. And if I asked QVC to stop presenting what I have no interest in, I guarantee plenty of viewers would be screaming.

BTW- I responded to another post about this yesterday. I think you're talking to the wrong people. Get buyers to stop buying during ITKWD and QVC will change its programming. If David sold only 100 of those tablets or whatever the TSV was, the change would happen fast.

Choice A because that and David are among my favorite programs and hosts. But it doesn't mean I'm glued to the TV screen . . . I can be doing something else and still within earshot.

I have watched David Venable from the beginning of his kitchen show. So I missed out on Bob Bowersox, etc. days.

Came to watch the Q faithfully by being introduced to the Q from the beginning by a girlfriend and her mom who watched faithfully--always had it on in their kitchen when I visited.

They had been watching probably from when QVC or its predecessor was first on air. I enjoyed watching with them (this is circa 1993-94) but had zero discretionary $'s as a single mom. Didn't even have cable back then.

So that is how I arrived at the Q--Nolan Miller, Kenneth J. Lane, Jacqueline Kennedy collection were still on in mid or late 2008 or 2009 when I actually started ordering and watching on my own.

Things change but I've gotten most of my kitchen things via the Q offerings and it helped me budget the purchases. KitchenAid mixer, Vitamix, Margaritaville, Oster--things that will probably outlast me.

Also some of my lovely designer or vintage jewelry has come via the Q.

Some shoes and clothing, too--Clark's, Simonton, Bob Mackie.

I most often now order online whether I'm watching or not but I also like the phone option because I didn't have computer access at home only at work until I retired and the wireless connection isn't always reliable (as many of us who have Comcast know the "joys" of their service.)

B - however it depends on what that Non-Kitchen TSV is. I don't think the Amazon tablet is a stretch for ITKWD. I use my tablet all the time in the kitchen to view recipes while I'm cooking so it makes sense. In all fairness I wasn't watching the show yesterday as I wasn't home but basing my response on a normal Sunday. If I was home I still would have turned off the show during the Amazon presenation because I just don't care for that product.

The mattress TSV those are another story altogether but I don't watch any presenations of them. I also understand that a TSV needs to be presentated regularly throughout the day.

Where's the choice for:

flipping thru channels, stayed to watch, and

☑ ordered the TSV

TSV sales during ITKWD have already demonstrated "how much this practice impacts viewers/buyers".

The impact?

Sales skyrocket, and dollar totals, plus draw of new customers are equal to or better than shows that don't include a TSV promotion.

That's basic business 101.

Operating a TV broadcast is expensive. They wouldn't keep inserting the TSV into ITKWD if it was a counterproductive practice.
