For just DH and myself, we serve ourselves from the pots/pans at the stove or countertop. If we have guests everything is put into serving bowls. I would not put a saucepan or skillet on the table, but casserole dishes, sure, why not.

As I was watching today's presentation of Rachael Ray's cookware it was mentioned several times that you could just bring it to the table to serve from. Maybe it's just my thing but I would never bring a saucepan directly to the table. I have a nice assortment of serving bowls that I fill at the stove and bring them to the table.

How do you ladies feel about serving food directly from the cookware onto the table. Okay to do or a definite no?

Depends on what the cookware looks like I guess. With just hubby and I we serve from the stove most days.

I have some Fiestaware baking dishes that go from the oven straight to the table. My serving bowls are Fiesta, too, so all goes well together.

DH always says when it's just us, why dirty up another bowl. Leave it on the store and let's fill our plates there - keeps the food warm and makes it easier on me. Thanks husband!

I suppose some folks might not want to have to wash another dish and they like to key into that sort of thing to relate. Personally, I don't have a problem with serving in my serving dishes (I have mostly Fiesta and Corning Ware French White and Black).

If it's just a regular meal, I tend to plate it from the stove, though, and bring it to him.

For Thanksgiving, I will put everything into the serveware and don't mind having something else to wash. That way I can wash up the pans and get them out of the way, on such an occasion where there will be leftovers, then I already have it in dishes I can use for storing. Most of my Corning Ware has those plastic snap-on seals for storing.

I have actually put dinner in some of my prettier bakeware and served it there because it was the right size, so I don't have a problem doing that. However, I would never bring bakeware piping hot straight from the oven to table. Depending on the meal, I also serve straight from the stove instead of putting into serving dishes.

I put food - in the skillet or pan or dish that it was cooked in - on our island (on trivets) and we serve ourselves from there.

I like this because it dirties fewer dishes/pans, plus the food stays hotter in the original pan.

Also, I find that we eat less if we have to get up to get more!

Like others have said, depending on meal sometimes I just plate from stove and serve. But, I like using my serving dishes also......definitely with company. Cookware that is the pots and fry pans, etc....never on table....even if nice like Rachel Ray's.....only my opinion.

We put things in serving dishes. If there are leftovers, they are often dishes that go back in the microwave--glass, porcelain, pottery, etc. Sometimes we get food from the stove but not often. Le Creuset comes to the table, and an All-Clad soup pot sometimes comes to the table. A braiser will too.
