for your shows!!!

The word babcia is pronounced as "bobcha" not as "bobseea" as David pronounced it. If he or Tony had prepped for the show they would have learned that. So tired of hosts not prepping. My all time favorite though is Alberti murdering the word tiramisu. Oh well, please prep.

Also, what he made is not an authentic babka.

How do you pronounce tiramisu? I suppose there are more serious sins one could commit than mispronouncing an obscure food term.

Not if you're doing this for a living. I flinch when I hear a bad grammatical error or mispronuncation!!! Things like these errors should be addressed as soon as posssible! It's a bad reflection on the company and the hosts.

As children we always pronounced it as bap-ka; golumkees were called hul-lup-see: I mention that 'cause not sure if the term for grandmother differs due to mispronunciation or nationality, Russian vs Polish.

I do agree with you re prepping and proper pronunciation: no excuse for poor presentations - that's their job!

@comedy clubber - David specifically mentioned that he wasn't sure of the pronunciation of the original word that gave us the current "babka" and apologized for that. Since this was only part of a trivia question, it also didn't have much of an impact on either the recipe or the show overall, and David has mentioned many times that he does not prepare the trivia questions, so it's hard to place all the blame on him.

It would be much more helpful if you gave feedback like this in a kind way instead of an accusatory way. And you could definitely visit David's Facebook page to share this detail with him directly, since he is very unlikely to see your comment here.

@Kachina624 - The emphasis should be on the final syllable rather than the penultimate one . . . but this mispronunciation is so prevalent now that it is listed as alternate pronunciation in most dictionaries.

How could you possibly know that David, Chef Tony or any hosts do NOT prep for the show?

From what has been said by the hosts, they all come in way earlier than their air time to do exactly that.

Different people from different areas pronounce words differently! My Italian family pronouces ricotta in a totally different way than what is widely heard. That doesn't make it wrong, just different.

Someone has already posted that they pronounce it different than you do.

Even if a host got totally tongue tied on a word on air, I wouldn't make a big deal out of it. We all do it sometimes, especially when talking non-stop!

Also, dishes from different regions are made in many ways. Again, doesn't make them NOT authentic...just not the way you or your family made it.

Want to discuss the 90 million ways to make homemade spag sauce and especially meatballs? We will all claim ours as the AUTHENTIC version! LOL

I also cringe about mispronouncing words. When Tony pronounced Bobka the wrong way I couldn't understand why and David should have been told how to pronounce it by the staff. If the hosts prep for the show then they should know what they are talking about. If you come from a European ancestry and your grandparents speak that language you would normally be able to pronounce something like this reasonably. But Tony slaughtered it. I agree David should have learned how to pronounce it before the show.

I am of Polish descent. My paternal grandparents immigrated from Poland. My father spoke the language fluently as did his siblings. My father, aunt, uncle and all the grandchildren in the family lovingly pronounced Bobcia as “Bob-chee”. I believe the Polish spelling of grandfather is dziadek. We lovingly called our grandfather “Jah-dek” or “Jah-jah”.

I don’t think it really matters how these words should be pronounced. There are different dialects, customs and slang versions of words in every language. What really matters, to me anyways, are the terms of endearment we used for our grandparents. I do not recall them ever correcting our pronunciation.

FWIW, we pronounced Golumpki or Golabki as “gah-woom-key”.

I do not use facebook. I value my privacy. I have also read that if you "like" someone from QVC on facebook, every follower is notified. Not at all a fan of Mr. Venable either. Grandpa in the Polish dialect my mother's family used was Dziadzia (Jaja). Italian relatives on dad's side so much easier, Nonna and Nonno, hew!!! I also was raised with the use of marinara or red sauce, since spaghetti is a pasta, and the sauce is used on many other types of pasta. To each his own, I guess. I just do not care for ignorant pronunciations, so if you don't know, ask someone who knows.

@comedy clubber Who would have guessed?? You apparently watch ITKWD just so you can post disparaging things about David -- you have many anti-David posts in this forum. It's getting very, very old.

As someone else stated, he apologized for any mispronunciation of the word, as it was a trivia question, not a part of his item presentations.

In this world not everyone has to like everyone. Personally, I like people who do not grandstand and act their age. As I said on another post, it saddens me that Dan Hughes may be leaving QVC. His calmness, age appropriate behavior, tolerance of others, and professionalism will be sorely missed.

I am so sorry that whack-a-doodles offend me with childish comments, belittling comments, and cute behaviors, but as a mature adult I expect other mature adults to act the same. I can only hope that the British gentleman will add more maturity to QVC. I usually just have any QVC program on for noise, while my room mate and I may order things with her account.

I repeat, not everyone has to like everyone, and everyone has a right to their opinion. Until the Supreme court repeals the First Amendment, that is the law of our land.

@comedy clubber, yes, and you also have the right to bash a host repeatedly. But others have the right to disagree and to question the reason for it. In this particular instance, I think you are really overreaching.

comedyclubber, I must say you are an enigma. Someone who is offended by childish comments yet enjoys comedy clubs, wants adult maturity yet uses a roommates account for QVC orders, uses QVC channel for background noise when British genteel is a preference, who values privacy but tells us a lot. Just odd, that's all.

"Mr. Venable" tries to please most of us best as he can.
