I much prefer a gas cooktop. I moved into the family home to take care of my elderly mother, and while the kitchen is plumbed for gas Mom has always had an electric cooktop. I tried to get her to agree to switch out the electric for gas, but she is so fearful of flame (even the gas fireplace logs aren't used much) that it wasn't worth the battle. So, I installed a new glass cooktop and am doing the best I can. But I cook better on a gas cooktop and will have one when I have my own home again.

On many house hunters and remodeling type shows I notice that alot of people want gas stoves. Do you like gas or electric stoves? I only have had electric stoves and the only time I had experience with a gas stove was many years ago when staying at my Aunt and Uncles house and they had a gas stove. I hated it! But I was not used to it at all!

I prefer gas burners over electric. It is easier to control and when you turn off the flame, the burner is not hot and will not continue cooking like an electric burner does.

That being said, I dislike a gas oven for baking. Electric is better and has a more even heat and produces a much better product. Professional bakeries always use electric ovens.

I have only had gas stoves. And when I have cooked on an electric stove, it has not gone well.

We own a cabin with several other people. They replaced the stove. And whoever bought the stove decided to get an electric stove. Well, ever since then there has been quite a lively discussion. It seems a number of people want a gas stove. The sad thing is - the original stove was working just fine. It was just someone wanted a glass top electric stove. And the battle began.

I grew up with an electric stove, but had gas in all of our apartments. I was leery of our first gas stove, but really liked the control once I got used to it. We have an electric glass cooktop and wall oven in our house. In a perfect world, I’d go to a gas cooktop, but I don’t want to run a gas line under the living room and around the basement stairs to get one.

I have had both. I prefer electric. There are nuances to all sorts of cooking. I like the better and larger contact with the cooking vessel with electric. I just build in the residual heat on the back end - turn it off and let the cooking continue, or turn it off and keep the food warm while you get other things served up.

This doesn't really influence my decision (there is not a gas line to my house) but I've had CO poisoning from a natural gas furnace and was in a propane explosion, in a camper. Gas is more volatile, IMO. I'd use it if it were here, but I am not unhappy that it is not.

I've had both. I think it partially depends on the brand. The first electric stove I hated. It was just awful. I had multiple gas stoves after that and really liked them, Now in this house There was already a Jenn Air electric stove and I really like it. I actually like the fact that I can cook or bake whatever I want no matter if it's summer or winter. It really doesn't seem to heat up the kitchen like my gas ones. Mine is old so I know I'm in for a shock when I have to replace it. All the reviews on the newer brands seem to be mixed. If I had to pick one, then I actually think I would choose the electric this time.
