Do You Have "Tailgate Markets" In Your Area?

I just thought about the "Tailgate Markets" that set up here on a certain weekend of the month. Here quite a lot of organic farmers bring what they have. The variety of fruits, vegetables, breads, soaps, and flowers change constantly.

A lot of churches will donate their parking lot.

No but in Old Town there is an outdoor market place. During the summer they set up early in the morning.

I have a friend who lives right down the road from me who has an amazing garden every year. He gives me lots of fruits and vegetables.

I don't get up early enough for the outdoor market although I used to when I had daughters living at home.

There are two "Farmer's Markets" within a couple of miles from me each week. I buy fresh mixed lettuces, veggies and fruits which have not been chemically treated. Have been going to the same vendors for over 20 years and haven't purchased any of this type of food at a grocery store during their harvesting months. One is open on Wednesday afternoons/evenings; the other is open on Sunday mornings/early afternoon. When my husband was alive, we also ordered 1/2 beef to our specifications from the same farmer. I also buy all my eggs (fresh and free roaming chickens) there. The palatable difference and freshness of the food makes these places extremely successful.

Nothing like that here but I live rural.

There's a community about 20 minutes from me that has banned all roadside stands. It's a rural, mostly farming community. No more roadside fruit, veggies or fresh corn. No more home canned jars of jam or jelly.

Must be the ginormous economic threat to WM. Or a more sinister you have no choice of where to shop and what to feed your family.

The Farmer's Market or the Mennonite Bulk foods store I shop are in a different community.

Not in the summertime in Arizona but from October to April there are farmers markets and outdoor craft shows. It’s way to hot for people to come out in the summer and the food would rot in a short time in the heat. I don’t know what a tailgate market is.

@Meowingkitty"Tailgate" means you just roll up in your vehicle if you don't have much and open the trunk or back of the van and sell. Sometimes, you'll get someone that mostly cans and doesn't want to have to deal with a table and tablecloth. At the gas station near us, there was an 85 year old farmer who brought the overflow from his wonderful garden. I miss him. He stopped last year. His wife had been sick and I loved sauteeing the fresh yellow squash and zucchini with onions and mushrooms. We'd talk about cucumber sandwiches with fresh cucumbers from the garden and Dukes mayo-of course!

I live in a small rural community and we have a farmer's market on Saturday (and my church donates the parking lot). I've never heard of the Tailgate Market. I've actually never been to our farmer's market but from what I understand there is normally a lot of jams, jellies, breads and not a lot of produce. I'm not a big bread eater nor do I care for jams & jellies so I've never stopped.

@Annabellethecat66WOW! That's wonderful!!! I could totally live on fresh green beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, and a little fresh corn.

We don't have tailgate markets in my area, even though I think they is one at the beach. We have a farmers market at our county parks every Friday from May through October. Local farmers bring their wares, and we have all kinds of vegetables, as well as meats, eggs, and local honey. There are also food trucks there. The first Saturday of every month is a rotating flea market that also has some of the same.

@ECBG Hello you sweet angel you. You know where I live. There's a little town right a few miles from me (maybe 5 or so). They have outdoor skating in the winter and put on summer programs there.
