Dishwasher won't keep running

I started my dishwasher last night and took my dog for a walk. When I got back I noticed that the dw wasn't running. Thought maybe I forgot to start it. Started it again. Went back in the kitchen about 1/2 hour later and the same thing. It starts up just fine but must only run for 5 min or so and then stops. Any ideas what might be wrong?

It could be so many things.. Maybe a loose wire? Try another wash cycle maybe. If it happens again, time to call the repairman, Honey.

If it's one of the newer ones without the latch that swings across, it could be just that the door has opened a little bit. My Bosch does this. Just push the door in again.

I had that that happen in December .. on a dishwasher that was less than 2 years old, but had been used maybe 10 - 15 times. It would run for three minutes and stop. FIrst service call, it was misdiagnosed and not fixed. Second call, one of two possible problems was diagnosed.... faulty wire or circuit/switch (I don't remember exactly what it was). Parts had to be ordered. Third service call they replaced a wire. Fourth service call they replaced the circuit or switch. It works! And, Bosch stood by their product and didn't charge for the repair.

I had the same problem when I moved into a newly built home about 18 months ago.

The GE Profile washer would start but then cut off and beep beep beep to let me know it had a problem.

Repairman found that a piece of the the plastic lock mechanism was broken, so the door would pop open once the water pressure pushed the door open.

Had to endure a long wait for him to return after ordering the replacement part, but got through the wait by using a piece of packing tape to secure the washer door to the countertop and using the washer as normal.

I guess my fix might be called an idiot's anwer to appliance problems, but it worked, and I didn't have to wash my dishes by hand. Three cheers for tough, secure packing tape.

There are often built-in safety devices that can shut down an appliance when triggered.

It may be shutting down because a sensor is being activated to prevent a flood, or some other costly mess.

Check your owners manual for 'troubleshooting'.

I had the same problem with my Jenn Air dishwasher. Had to replace the circuit board. Thankfully, it was still under warranty.

i had circiut board changed allso and i had bought service contract. the one call was more than what i paid for contract. that control board would have cost us over 300 bucks. plus all the other things that needed to be replaced like the motor.

@cookinfreak This is a longshot, but maybe check to see if the "float" is stuck (round thing inside on the front of the bottom that could prevent water from draining as it should while running.) Is there water in the bottom when it quits running? Oh well, longshot, like i said.

Not too long ago i paid a guy $100+ just to tell me everything was fine other than the float stuck. 'Just jiggled it and it was good to go!
