I purchased some here in PA two weeks ago. OMG, they are so good I could eat them out of hand like an apple.

Enjoy then while you can. I am going to buy more and store them to hopefully have some when they are not in season.

The Atlanta metro newspaper recently contained info about storing (and eating) Vidalia onions.

It's important to keep the onions separated, which is why it used to be common to store them in nylon pantyhose with knots tied between each onion. Not many pantyhose can be found these days.

Advice given was to wrap each onion in a paper towel and store in the fridge. Treated this way, they can last up to a year. But they also freeze very well when chopped, sliced or even kept whole.

If you want to eat them raw, the story suggests giving onions a little soak in ice water for about 30 minutes, and then bite into them just like an apple.
