11 casaroles!

I am in process of purging my kitchen cabinets. I am lucky tghat I have the tall 42" I believe, cabinets. However, since I need a ladder to get to the top shelves , I tend to put things up there and forget about them. I just counted how many casarole dishes I own - 11. Various sizes. Now why would anyone need 11 of them? I am going to keep only a select few.Last night I gave one from Pampered chef to a friend - she loved it! I never used that one because it was stoneware and could not go in the dishwasher. So I figure I still have about 8 to get rid of. Temptations - Corning ware - and ceramics from mystery sources.

If there are various sizes that is ok because you don't always need just one size but if they are ones never used then sure why keep them. I'm sure I have more than that. For me though, I find that certain things I make in mine turn out better in one while others have a pan that works better also in the others so I do use all mine at times. There are also times when I make several things for different occasions and need more than one or two of a certain size.

Thank Heavens for Good Will and other places in town that will be happy to take these things off our hands and get them to others who can use them. That's always a good feeling to know that.

That does sound like an excessive amount of casseroles, @151949. We use casserole dishes all the time for both cooking and reheating.

We have a 3 12-quart, a 3-quart, and two 2-quart Le Creuset covered casseroles. We have also have two French porcelain small covered casseroles: They don't have the measurement on the bottom but are probably a one-quart and and a 16-ounce.

Keep purging! I have three regular casserole dishes and one divided one which is great plenty. Then I have a Temp-tations set that sits out as decor.

Every now and then I see "my" corning ware casserole dishes for sale in antique stores/flea markets. The exact ones in my cabinet right now this minute.

This is a wake up call, let me tell you . . .

@Peaches McPhee When I got married in 1969 I recieved a set of the corning ware "pots and pans " in the blue willow. They are basically various size casarole dishes that you can also use on top of the stove and there is a handle that attaches to them.When we moved to Florida I gave them to a friend who wanted them , but I also still have 2 casaroles in the 1.5 qt size. in blue willow. They are 49 years old! and still look like new.

@suzyQ3@I was hoping that you could recall where you bought the one quart casserole.I think that size would be perfect to microwave frozen veg

Wasting cash unnecessarily don't happen here, either.

Proud owner of 1.5 & 3qt covered Corningware casseroles.

Geez are they old and still going strong!

@dex, it is a very useful size. Both this one and the 16-ounce one are Revol French white porcelain cocottes in their Belle Cuisine line. They are not inexpensive. The one quart retails at $95.

One less expensive option is that Sur La Table has them, but they are made specifically for them and are manufactured in China instead of France.

I have wasted money through the years buying and trying various things. I still end up using mostly my Le Creuset and my Corning Ware casseroles.

Two of the Corning Ware (with the little blue flowers) were wedding presents 47 years ago! A shallow 1 quart and the sort of square shaped 1.5 quart.

I also have a second shallow 1quart in white and a 1.5 quart that is shallower and with a bigger diameter than the blue flower one.

I hate to admit it, but I have more than 11 casseroles, too. Talk about an embarassment of riches!

I love all of them, and all get used at some time or another. Would be hard to part with any of them. I know that as soon as I do, I will someday have to fish around looking for just the right one to cook something.

hmm, I have more than that and use most, if not all, of them frequently- I suppose if you do not entertain and do not have famly over for meals, perhaps that would be too many..I cook a lot and entertain and well, just think about the things you put on the table and sideboard for a big holiday meal..That takes a lot of casserole type dishes-

Maybe if they were all 9x13 Pyrex bakers, it might be overkill, but the ovals, rounds, souffles, 1 qt to 3 qt casserole dishes can also be used as serving pieces besides baking food in them...

@Mothertrucker I use the bowls that match my china when I put out food for company.Why would I use a mismatched casarole dish instead?

I have a variety of different sizes and shapes. I've never counted how many casserole pieces I have.

If storage was an issue, I think a set of round and a set of rectangular pieces would suffice.
