Water left in Car

I got some groceries yesterday and mistakenly left the 12 pack of bottled water in the car trunk. The temps got in the 70s. Would you still drink this water?

I have heard many times that you shouldnt leave water in a warm car overnight. Something about the heat and the plastic of the bottles causing a chemical reaction!!

@CherryHugs I wouldn’t drink it if the taste was altered.My son used to keep his water in the hot garage at his place and 8 could taste the plastic.I had to get him to sto0 that.

It's fine. Water gets left on trucks and in warehouses without air conditioning in July all the time.

When bottled water is shipped to stores, you can bet it’s a lot hotter than seventy degrees inside the trucks.

Of course you can drink it.I leave bottled water in my trunk all the time during all 4 seasons.I wait until someone can carry it in for me.Sometimes it’s in there for a couple of days.No issues ever!!

Well, if you lived in Oklahoma your water would get hot unless you left it in the fridge. I WOULD NOT drink it if you had opened it and drunk out of it the day before. In that case I'd dump it. If it is sealed I can see no problem at all with it.

It was 88 degrees outside, according to my car, yesterday at 2 p.m.

I would drink it, and have done so many times (when leaving an opened bottle in the car during the summer). Nevertheless, if you're uncomfortable, use it to water the houseplants.

Here is a news report on this subject as done by a tv station in Texas (king5).

I did a Google search on this phrase: " water in plastic bottles how long before it's unsafe"

We turned to Dr. Lance Williams, Professor of Biology at the University of Texas at Tyler. He said bottled water is one of the most consumed beverages in the United States, citing a 2014 study by the University of Florida.

"They left bottles of water at 158 degrees Fahrenheit for several weeks,” Williams said. “Out of 20 brands we looked at, only one in 20 had trace amounts of BPA."

BPA is a chemical that is often used to make certain plastics, and according to the Mayo Clinic, it is not harmful in small doses.

"if you’re leaving a bottle of water in a car for a day, there's really no risk of any chemicals leaching into the water," Williams said.

He said if we are talking about weeks and months, that may be a different story.

"If you left it in a car for weeks at a time, then there's a small chance that some chemicals like BPA could leach into the water, but it's a very small probability," Williams said.

The larger risk comes when people drink from a bottle, leave it in a hot car and then drink it again, Williams said. Bacteria introduced from your mouth has a chance to grow, and then you may have a serious health issue on your hands.

This past winter I couldn't get in with all of my groceries, lots of stairs to go up.. I left my diet cokes in the back of my little truck. In the middle of the night they froze and started to explode! Sounded like cannons going off! I was like, what in the world is going on. Next morning I found frozen diet soda all over everything around my truck. Very funny to me now....

I push myself thru the pain of rib pain to get it done. Shouldn't have to, but, nobody promised me a rosy life.

That happened to us too, except cans of diet black cherry soda froze in a portable fridge in our camper. In the middle of the night they exploded and blew the fridge door open and then several more cans sprayed this dark cherry mess all over everything.

It is funny now, but not so much at 3 am when we were frantically trying to throw the cans outside while they were still spraying and then having to get that cleaned up before it stained the carpet.

i try not to leave any liquids or foods in my truck anytime of the year. I once left a package of raw chicken in the trunk in July by mistake ..but that is another story. Yuck!

We have a Reverse Osmosis System under our kitchen sink.

I hate drinking bottled water & only do so while traveling.

Plastic bottles have BPA, PET & Phthalates in them which leach out when the bottles get hot. IMO all bottled water has those chemicals in them since I doubt they ship the water in a refrigerated truck or store in AC.
