Think they're shipped first week of May. I get mine from Morris Farms.

Quality could be better, but, they're the cheapest in regards to shp costs.

I get 20 lb bag.

I looked at another farm , but, they wanted 40 bucks just to ship to Tx.

I'll just have to do without for that. So, went back to Morris where the shp is included in the 20lb bag price They last me long time and in the meantime I get some small bags from Sam's.

Use an apple corer and core the onion, trying not to go all the way through the onion.

If you do go all the way though when coring, no biggie since you'll be wrapping it in foil, which will hold the bullion & butter in.

After coring, place 1 tablespoon of butter/margarine and 1 bouillon cube or 1 tablespoon bouillon paste.

Place on foil squares large enough the wrap foil around onion and twist top.

Oven - 350 about 45 min. depending on size. (press foil to see if soft)

Grill - close to hot coals 45 min. turning often till soft.

Soooo good, like french onion soup!

You'll want to serve these in a bowl, due to the yummy juice or it will run all over your plate!

vidalias are my favorites, but at other times during the year i also use and enjoy maui sweets, texas 1015, and oso sweets. look for them if you cannot find vidalias in the grocery stores.

if i order the vidalias they will be from pittman and davis. they have approximately 28 pounds for $45 and free standard shipping beginning the week of 5/28.

Can’t wait for the Vidalia’s! I think my husband read that they’ll be out around 4/28. Somewhere in there.

A local vegetable market gets in some bags of the smaller onions. They’re regular vidalias, but not as big as some of them. The owner’s daughter calls them the peewees. I go as soon as I know they’re in so I can get a couple bags of the peewees. They’re my favorites.

We also bake them. We don’t use boullion but scoop out a little well in the onion, add some butter and low sodium soy sauce. And a little salt and pepper sometimes, sometimes not. Wrap in foil. When we bake them, we bake like 6 at a time. I love them.

I'm live just south of the VIdalia onion growing area. I'm learning to eat onions fully cooked, but get heartburn for days if I eat them less cooked. We too cook them on the grill. We hollow it out a bit, put butter in them, with salt and pepper. I'll have to do some with the beef bullion and butter. Grilled onions I can handle, but not a whole one. I can see how it is like French onion soup. I bet some garlic on them would be great too!

Our schools sell them for fundraisers in 20lb and 40lb bags for $25 & $50. We have many groups that sell them for fundraisers. They are available easily around here. We have family that gets them in bulk, then freeze them whole and diced for future recipes. You can also keep them in the crisper or in a box under the sink or cool cabinet/dark closet.
