I bought my daughter one of Curtis Stones Durapans at HSN for Christmas and she absolutely loves it. She said nothing sticks to it! It was the 12 inch one, nice and deep, with 2 helper handles and glass lid. I also got her the steamer insert for it. I would love to get a whole set of his Durapans!

Thirty nine years ago, my in laws purchased a set of Farberware pots as a pre-wedding gift for my husband and me. They are basic stainless steel with no special interior coating. They have been used daily for all those years and still look brand new. I would buy the same brand again if I needed a new set. I wish I had bought my daughter this brand of cookware when she married 4 years ago. She picked out an expensive, well known brand that is not holding up very well.

I would suggest Curtis Stone durapan set of cookware from HSN best pans I've had in a very long time. Nothing sticks and excellent quality.

edited: just saw 3 sets of black available HSN #495-609

$169 (they were $119 yesterday😤but said "sold out" guess someone cancelled). I'd buy these.

Not sure how much & what kinda cook your son is but I bought Caphalon set at Kohl for my son. He is just starting to enjoy cooking & these pans are perfect. (I used my 30% and they were on sale). Only piece I bought additional was the 12" covered saucepan. He has given them good review.

Happy Birthday to him!

I cook a lot. After reading the reviews, I purchased a set of Curtis Stone skillets. They cook perfectly and continue to look brand new. Because of this, I purchased his basic set of cookware (HSN 522-936) for our son's wedding gift last Fall. I will add to this collection with larger pieces in the future. They are not gourmet chefs, but have been very happy with this set. Other nice gift choices would be Rachel Ray's 8 qt. pasta pot (QVC) and Wolfgang Puck's 2 qt. sauce pan (often offered at HSN, but not just now.)

When we were married (45 years ago) my husband's aunt gave us a huge set of cookware from one of those home party deals. She spent a lot, and there were some pieces I seldom ever used. I'm not sure a huge set of pots & pans is what any young person/couple needs (not to mention has room to store/move around).

I agreeing with other posters about Curtis Stone cookware. I really enjoy his durapan. It is truly non-stick.

There is a five piece set (three pans, two lids) on their website now. I think that is plenty for a young person. Too many pieces take too much space in an apartment.

If he can cook, stainless steel. Costco or Sam's has a good deal, but make sure that it can also go in the oven. If he is not skilled, ceramic non-stick. It is harder and will last longer than Teflon. Also a bottle sprayer for his choice of oils or some version of spray PAM. A good non-stick spray oil is gold. I have stainless, waterless cookware from 2002. It does everything but go in the oven, but I don't use that much anymore other than my countertop oven. I do use my Instant Pot more than my countertop oven, air fryer and Cook's Companion multi cooker. I use the air fryer tonight to cook some shrimp and some dim sum/pot stickers. YUM and low fat!

I'm wondering if your son is a serious cook, or if he needs a nice, non-stick, everyday set of cookware. If it's the latter, I'd check out Bed Bath & Beyond, Target, JC Penny or other similar stores. They all have a nice variety of medium-priced cookware that would meet the needs of most of us. I personally wouldn't buy from the H or the Q because I don't see the need to pay for shipping, but that's just me.

I'm on team Curtis Stone. His durapans are easy clean up , but, don't think you can put in dishwasher, though. Can't imagine boys or men hand washing nothing, mine wouldn't. LOL

SS is always a good choice too 'cept to fry in . Always go to Sam's and get a set of aluminum skillets. All I'll use not suppose to put in dishwasher, but, I do

LOL

I feel that nonstick coatings make cookware not last as long. If you really want a "set," that means not buying something too expensive. If he really enjoys cooking, he'll want to replace them in a few years. If he doesn't, they'll work well for a reasonable number of years. That siad, I got my daughter one of the nice sets of Cook's Essentials that Meredith Lawrence demonstrates. After 7 years, she's replaced the skillets and added some pieces of better cookware, but most of it is still going strong. So I feel it's a decent investment, and there are often sets for <$100.

The alternative is to buy 2-3 pieces of better cookware that will do most of what is needed, instead of a set. Depends on what you want to spend, but if I were doing it and could afford it, I'd get a 3 quart AllClad saucepan with lid, a T-fal Professional 12.5" non-stick skillet, and either a nice, smaller saucepan with a steamer insert, or a 10" "everyday" pan, or both.
