I ate more than my share of sweets over the holidays and, received extra sweets as gifts. I really want to lower my consumption of sweets now that the holidays are over. What do you do with the extra sweets you have at your house?

we either just eat them or take them to work......when we take them to work they are usually gone in less than a day. also, if anyone that comes around likes them i have been packing up little holiday ziploc baggies for them to take home.

Freezer. I live alone so I pull out what I want on the week-ends. I slice up the sweets ahead of time. I received a small specialty pound cake this year and cut it up and stuck in the freezer to nibble on for the next several weeks or months. By slicing ahead of time keeps me honest with myself on portion control. Some nights are hard not to go back to the freezer for more but I just think of the extra work-out I will have to do.

My Mom always gave me a heart shaped big box of candy for valentines day and that goes in the crisper of the fridge for one piece on Saturday and one on Sunday. Will last for months.

Enjoy the big whump when they hit the bottom of the trash can. Did this yesterday with a batch of gifts. I told the giver how much I appreciated them and how good they were. Other things take this route besides sweets too. . . I get rid of it. There is no greater glory in eating or saving a bunch of stuff you don't want or need, or foisting it off on others who don't need it either.

If they're already opened, I will throw them into the trash.. no guilt about that.

I used to send unopened treats to work with my husband, but since he is not working, I will add them to my food donation bag. My church takes a food donation every Sunday. I know that cookies and candy are not staple foods, but I assume the pantry will either add them as a treat or do whatever is appropriate with them. I get many boxes of candy, cookies and treats from my students at holiday time. We couldn't possibly eat them all.
