I have been a customer of temptations since day one and I have many sets and have gifted it many times. First off I would like to give QVC customer service the highest compliment they are always excellant. I had gifted a set of nestable baking dishes to my daughter last year. Last night she decided to put a steak in one of the dishes and broil the steak. Unfortunately the dish cracked. I called QVC customer service they gave me Temptations customer service number. Called this morning and again their customer service was excellent as well. They are replacing the dish. However the woman I spoke to advised not to put the dish close to the heating element and not to put anything frozen or cold in the dish when broiling. Also she advised to put the plate in the oven when the oven is still cold and let the plate heat up with the oven. All good advise. She was very nice and very helpful. But I really think after all these years this information should be shared on air when selling. Always a fan!

Yikes! You’re supposed to broil in a broiler pan, not in ceramic bakeware. I wouldn’t even attempt that. Of course, the bakeware would break.

I suggest to get a water broiler pan. I have had mine for many years and it still looks like new. It is easy to clean and doesn’t have a stain on it. It’s one of the best kitchen purchases I have ever made. They are only available for sale on line. Google water broiler for info.

When you have less expensive ceramic cookware you can bet that the clay and firing are as cheap as you can get. Quality clays and quality firings are expensive to do, but they are worth the price! Even Polish Stoneware can come in different qualities and researching the manufacturer is imperative because even in the PS world there are inferior clays and firings... I've had my collection that I use daily for well over ten years and not a crack, not even a chip!!

@Q4u I have many pieces of Evesham bakeware. It is high quality and is expensive. The bottoms of the cookware is not glazed. When it is soaked in water or cleaned in the dishwasher, the ceramic absorbs the water through the bottom of the piece.

if it is put into the oven while moisture is still in the ceramic, it will probably crack when steam forms and creates pressure.

i have never had a piece crack, but I am careful in using it. Different types of ceramic require different precautions.

Food is broiled at at least 550 degrees. That temp is way to high for almost every type of stoneware or ceramic.

You are right though, some inferior clays might not last too long. It is better to buy the best you can afford.

Ceramic bakeware is not meant for broiling...the temperature is just too high. Every stove I've ever purchased comes with a metal broiling pan....QVC was very accomodating to replace a piece that wasn't used for what it was intended.
