A celebrity chef from another shopping channel has a really cool induction set-up.........is it Curtis Stone or Todd English?..........it's not just a flat-top burner, but something fancier that I saw briefly on TV and made a mental note to look into later.

Anyone have this already? I'm looking for an induction cooktop and I see there is this Copper Chef on the Q for $40 with free shipping but is it any good? I need it just to boil water, nothing else. TIA

K46731

I purchased the coper chef pan with the induction burner set that was on QVC recently and even though I had the burner turned up to sear it took a long time for just water to even begin to show some sign of getting hot with just a few bubbles even after 25 min. , maybe I'm doing something wrong as I'm new to induction cooking but the whole experience was disappointing.

I have two different brands of induction burners and a gas cooktop (the latter one I don't really like and wish I had my old glass cooktop back from a former home).

I also own many different types of cookware...........non-induction-compatible stainless steel, induction-ready ceramic-coated, Le Creuset enameled cast iron, Induction-ready stainless and more.

I've found that certain types of stainless (depending on what type of bottoms they have) are very slow to heat up on the gas cooktop, and they make me miss my glass cooktop.

I've also found that certain induction-ready pans may work better or worse on the induction burners, again depending on unknown factors in how they are made and what they are made of.

It's a trial-and-error process figuring out which cookware works best. on which cooking surface. I'm still workin' on it!! But will say that the Le Creuset works best on everything.

I've read this one is not powerful enough to boil water quickly, so if that's what you want one for, I'd say look elsewhere. I'll be in the market for one eventually, but I haven't done a lot of research yet - just enough to know this one is not for me.

Please, can you tell us if you've had problems with the lettering on the controls wearing off? I repeatedly see that as a concern with induction burners. I am leaning towards getting a Nuwave but I just saw a demo on Evine earlier today for an induction burner and one of the selling points was that their lettering is designed to not wear off. I believe the price was $80.00 and included a large, non-stick square pan.

Thanks.

A celebrity chef from another shopping channel has a really cool induction set-up.........is it Curtis Stone or Todd English?..........it's not just a flat-top burner, but something fancier that I saw briefly on TV and made a mental note to look into later.

I'm leaning towards a Nuwave after reading the good reviews about it. Gosh I see some really expensive brands out there...like in the hundreds of dollars. Those are out of my league but I think a Nuwave might work for me.

ETA: the Nuwave Titanium is 1800W. This is probably the one I need.

@SilleeMee I see Ming Tsai is going to have the TS on HSN on Friday, November 10 and it may be that he will be bringing an induction burner with him for a good price . . .

Thanks @momtochloe.

I bought one because my little apartment didn't have a stove. I like it, although I think it takes longer to bring water to a boil than a stovetop. I use the sear function to boil water because it is the fastest. I have used copper chef knockoff pans with it (they were at a discount store and are called Copper Cook. They are identical to the Copper Chef line). Sometimes I think the heating is a little uneven, but overall I am satisfied. And, unfortunately, I bought mine at full price and paid shipping.
