We had a couple replies in this thread - I thought I had corrected the month yet it continues to show up as September. Open the thread and it says October say am starting anew. Before I finish with this I will probably have it royally messed up. Sigh

Had Jack in the Box last night for Ricky and Davey - Saturday night was pork steak in the slow cooker. Tonight? Not real sure - Fried Cabbage with cornbread sounds good to me. Yes indeed it does.

Hope we can now get some people here for October Cooking.

I made split pea soup in the slow cooker yesterday, so easy, and so good. In my attempt to clean out the freezer this month, I found a ham hock, bought the split peas, carrots and potatoes, and had everything else.

I made croutons from English Muffins, delicious. These little muffins are so versatile. I have made French toast, perfect as they become crunchy, and have the little pockets to hold the syrup, used them as hamburger buns, grilled cheese, and of course open faced sandwiches, such as tuna melts, now croutons.

Tonight will probably be potstickers and cabbage, have to get rid of those potstickers, lol, so I can buy more of the kind I like, which is pork, these are vege, okay, but not as good as the pork.

We have having Fall weather this week, wonderful, but not so conducive to ripening tomatoes and peppers.

Preds, had to chuckle as that sure looks like Miss Blackie, my old black cat peeking out amongst the orange and yellow. LOL. Have a lot of left over food in the Fridge AND tomorrow is garbage pick up day. So I guess that means we need to eat what is in the Fridge - I will be more than happy as there is some left over fried cabbage. Love that stuff. Lots of other good stuff also but if not each pretty soon it has to be tossed. the pork steak was fixed either Sunday or Monday night so it must be finished up.

Nice day today - and I kept busy. Ricky had his session at the County Mental Health facility and did pretty darn well - he was soooooooooooo well behaved yesterday. Then had to run two other errands and he went with me - was a bit nervous about one but he did very well. Thank you Lord.

Need to get a move on - hope one and all had a super great day

I used a lot of creativity last night - the remaining frozen dinners. Tonight I hope to be able to find time - yeah, sure - to fix a roast in the slow cooker. Only have two left in the freezer - that is unreal for me. Need to get down to Foods 4 Less and buy a couple more family packages of them as they are on sale for $2.47 a pound - boneless. Their meats are excellent. Freezer and cupboards are really not jammed as they usually are - been a tough couple months but hope to get a few things put back again - am use to that way of life.

Had to take the car in to Toyota yesterday afternoon. Dash maintenance light came - it was just a regular check up but you never know and those warnings are lifesavers and have been a couple times thru the years. Only needed tire rotation, oil filter, wiper blades and of course oil change. I got off lucky - last couple trips it was brakes and that is always pricey.

Hope one and all have a great day - we are looking forward to a real hot one - right night I am freezing. Sigh.

I DID get the roast done. Had a onion in the cooker to help it along and mashed potatoes and Lima beans. The little ones, Davey and I still have some left over - that will work.

Really hot today - almost 100 - still 80 degrees outside. Tomorrow warmer and then Sunday it will start to cool down a bit.

Pooky1 you have a good deal with your mechanic letting you make payments - not sure Toyota would do that but there have been times I have struggled to pay the bill all at once. Once it cost me well over a Grand. Ouch. In fact I think it was closer to 2 Grand - radiator sprung a leak and it seems they had to take out almost the entire engine to get it replaced. I just recall it was super pricey. Never had that happen before and I pray it does not happen again.

Hope all had a great day.

It was a LONG day. Kids were rolling this a.m. and Ricky - Bless him - was having difficulties this morning. He was driving his little sister nuts. I was exhausted but by 11, had both kids cleaned up, packed up and ready to go and visit Mama Tessa. That in itself is a long drive - down near L.A. but very important. Had to get gas before leaving - had zipped to the gas station earlier and a tanker was there and it was jammed - made it this time. Kids had a ball with their Mama but about 30 minutes before leaving Ricky got a little nuts - Bless him again -= as I know he has suffered so much not being with his Mother for so very long. He threw a fit before leaving and we had to leave - that is the way it is!! He did not hug her as he was having a tantrum but when he realized we were leaving regardless - had no choice, he just fell apart because he did not hug her. Poor little boy. At any rate made it back to San Bernardino and Sherry and Matt were taking the kids for a couple days - I had them all week and it was rough having no help. Love them so much and just keep praying they will survive.

Davey and I then went to Outback and had Eggplant Parmasaign (??? spelling) - love it. First they forgot to give either of us anything to eat with and the salads were on the table. LOL. Got some silverware and here comes the main dish. Took me a minute after looking at it that it was NOT eggplant, rather chicken. So the next round was "will you please bring me some eggplant" LOL again. So that was taken care of.

Get home and told Davey AGAIN you did NOT take the trash/garbage out last night. So he got that done and came in and asked to spend the night with Joey. Told him I had best not walk in his bedroom and find any clothes tossed around anywhere. Long story short, he went to Joey's yet quickly picked up us dirty clothes. Told him to have a good time - now I am about ready for bed. Church tomorrow morning and am looking forward to it.

I called Sherry a few minutes ago and asked about Ricky - I worry so much about that little boy. She said he had calmed down, eaten a good dinner and was being nice to his sister. I was at peace - I am so blessed to have Sherry pitch in.

Hope one and all had a great day.

Oh my gosh. I recall you had mentioned before that Maria makes her menus in advance. How on earth can anyone be that smart? I sit here and wonder what to fix by nightly. Well when I was younger and working so many hours. I did prepare some foods early and cook some part of the way. Use to often do double duty in the evenings - cook up partly the dinner for the next night after we ate. So the next night finished up that dinner and fixed another one part way - worked just great. Spent time with my daughter - she got her school work done, and we had some good times. Also took time to show her some what I consider - good cooking. My husband was gone a lot as he was Navy and then we parted ways - which was good for both of us. We became better friends after a divorce - not proud of it but must admit it was the right thing for all of us. And the all of us includes my daughter.

Was warm here today also - this morning very cool - nothing strange about that and then it warmed up.

By the way I had to go do some shopping for the little one's Mom as she needed a few things - Sigh - and then will try and get it all shipped to her tomorrow. Very tiring day as neither Davey nor his Mother -
Tessa's Mom - would go with me and help. Hmn. Will remember that. Their lifestyle is so foreign to me - will say in fairness to Davey he is doing so much better the past couple months than he did the last four years. Still a struggle and I am convinced he is very depressed - must be hard for him to have both parents and they truly pay little attention to him - not right. I have been unable to get him to go for help - he is way too big for this skinny woman to personally escort him - I would but it will not work. So sad his parents both will not do it as he would go in a heartbeat - enough of my complaining. When I cannot fix something I go a bit nutso - what can I say.

Hope all ate well - tonight Davey was on his own but he did very well - do not feel sorry for him. He ate exceptionally well. LOL.

Davey has a problem which I believe is depression - having said that he will NOT go anywhere he chooses not to go. I cannot pick him up and carry him. I am very disappointed in both his parents. He threw a tantrum a year ago on the sidewalk in front of the dentist office - he was there to get two fillings and he made this big speech about no one tells him what to do with his body. He DOES have a problem but while I have always had kids do what I say, not always gracefully but they do it, NOT David. I blame his parents 100 percent on this. Many things-sessions-counseling - etc - have been set up for him. He will not go.

At any rate, he got his report card and he did very well. His school gives progress reports each week but yesterday he got his report card. Super pleased with him - now if i could get him in gear some other ways. There is hope.

We tried to finish up the leftovers - too much still in the Fridge to get that accomplished. There is still hope however as trash/garbage pick up is not until Thursday morning -= we have another day to tackle it. Ricky was here this evening as he has a class to attend tomorrow morning at the County Mental Health facility. Then back he will go to Sherry as I have a funeral to attend Thursday morning, then Friday I will FINALLY GET MY MONTHS OLD DELAY PERM!!!!! Then Friday afternoon both kids come back and Saturday I take them to visit with their Mom. I am tired but these children are worth what I am able to give - Must admit, however, it is getting real tough. LOLl.

Hope one and all had a super day - thank goodness the winds have calmed down.

Last evening, was steak tacos. I have been growing about ten or so varieties of chile peppers, deliberately picked low heat types, but the low heat has no heat, disappointed in that. I have several plants that have what look like very large long peppers that look like huge jalapenos, but no heat. In their green state, they are a bit bitter. I am letting some turn red to see if they will sweeten.

I picked several, sliced them into strips, and along with thinly sliced sweet onion, sauteed them, tossed in chunks of leftover steak from sunday's dinner, grilled tortillas, spread with refried beans, and topped with the steak mix, DH loved it. as I served him, I said, "this is a real he-man's meal," said good, he needed that, lol. So now I know what to do with these peppers now.

Since the weather is turning cooler, still with sun, except for some days, my other chiles are slowing turning red, and as they do, I pick them, slice them, and freeze them. Basil processing is almost finished, now on to peppers.
