Looking for new countertop microwave - brands you like?

My Panasonic microwave oven made in the USA bit the dust after 20 years. My first instinct was to buy the same similar countertop model -with my size constraints and 1100 watts. I know this next one will not be made in the USA let along last 20 years but.... After reading some bad reviews - ranging from receiving a lemon right out of the box or it dying after less than a year.

So I figure I pose the question here ... are you happy with your microwave and what brand is it. I don't cook with the oven - mainly warming up food. I want power since there was one at work that you can wait 5 minutes and lukewarm.

We have a Panasonic purchased about 10 years ago; it replaced a 20+ year old hefty Kenmore that bit the dust.

I like our Panasonic and would purchase the brand again.

At work we have a couple of GEs and I don't like them. Sometimes they don't shut off when the door is closed, people get their food and walk away without noticing.

@Yahooey- your new oven will be much lighter to move and will be more efficient and faster cooking. But you're right, it won't be made in the USA.

@Yahooey ~ I have had both a Sharp and Panasonic for 10+ years (ea.), and both have served my family well. Currently, I have a Panasonic, which I purchased at C_ _ _co 2 years ago and I'm very pleased with it👍🏼

We have a cheap, little GE that we bought at Walmart for our daughter when she was in college.

I hate to poke the bear, it's going on 10 years old and still going strong.

Appliances and electronics change every year - as does the price and quality - even within the same brand. I suggest u google different microwave brands and read the reviews. I always start at costco dot com --- they have lots of microwaves on-line - and if there's a problem - u know it will be handled promptly.

We just replaced our 24-yr-old GE with another GE. Hope the new one lasts as long as the old one!

I purchased a Breville when my last microwave broke and LOVE it!!! It reheats evenly. Has a few controls so food doesn't "fry" in it and cooks a baked all the way through. I got mine at BBB with a coupon. One of the best appliances I have purchased for my kitchen.

Panasonic is the only brand with the patented partial heating design meaning if you put it on 50% you get even half power heating-- not the pulsing full power/no power heating that other brands feature. The reason I will only buy Panasonic in the future.

I see that you bought one @Yahooey.

I had noticed when we were shopping for one some time ago that many of them go up to 1000 watts instead of the old standard of 1100 watts, and that they also seemed a bit smaller in size, too.

We found a Kenmore on sale that suited our needs and that still was at 1100 watts.

We have been pleased with it, too.

I bought the same size 1.3 cu ft and the same 1100 watts.

so far so good - but then it has been a few days and used it 2x lol

I have limited counter space, so I did a lot of research and I bought a Cuisinart Microwave/Convection/Roaster Oven...It was more expensive but I LOVE IT!!! It microwaves and I bake in it as well. You just have to be aware when you use it and what you are doing so you press the proper button.

Hi @SharkE,

Yeah, if you like to prepare some type of frozen entrees in your microwave, you'll need at least an 1100 watt microwave oven, as that seems to be the standard that most of the test kitchens seem to use.

We replaced out 20 plus year old Panasonic microwave with another Panasonic. I love it!
